Has anyone kept their stock tires (33’s/Mojave/Rubicon etc) and swapped them on new wheels?

Be aware that moving the centerline of the tire out may change handling........... and necessitate a change in toe. it all depends on what you do.
If you keep the centerline of the tire where it is in relationship to the face of the hub, you'll be taking less risk.

I won’t be pushing it out…. But probably a little further in (if I go with 8” wheel) due to the no-poke factor.

However…. I’m seeing there’s only 2” of clearance in the rear with the Fox shocks. No concern on the front - the Fox shocks are tucked next (& behind) the coils.

This is all good information, as its making me think a little harder. I‘ll definitely take the wheels off to look at the specs. Information online varies (and can‘t be trusted).

I’m assuming that 2” clearance in the rear is something I’ll want to stay with…..for suspension travel. Not that I’m ever gonna go offroad to flex it….but, that’s a concern also.

I might just have to take a wheel off to see the specs…. The information you read online varies. I‘ll stick with a 7 or 8” wheel.

But as someone already said…the choices can be pretty boring. I was shooting for next year to do this, so I’ve got plenty of time to search!!

The OEM Mojave wheels are 17x7.5, 37.17 offset.

What you want to look for is Backspace. Offset changes when the wheel gets wider. At 7.5 wide, 37 offset is 5.71 inch backspace. If you stick with 5-3/4 backspace and go wider then the tire will stick out. You may be able to get away with a 6 inch backspace but I wouldn’t go any closer.

Is it safe to say that I’d need + .43 offset - 6.21” backspacing.
That should get the wheel in closer to the frame by 1/2” to keep it stock location (no poke).? Or should the overall width difference be split in half?

For some reason, I’m thinking that 1/2” needs to be split in half…..

That wheel size will probably work. The tricky part is finding it. It’s probably not a popular size. If you go with an 8.5,+25 (I found it on Method Wheels for example) then the wheel will stick out a bit but the tread of the tire will probably be at the edge of the fender. Someone else may have that setup but I still have stock wheels.

So….I want new wheels but don’t want to buy new tires. 2024 Mojave with 33’s (285/70R17).
From what I understand (from research) my specs are 5” on 5” bolt pattern, Rims aer 7” wide, and +45 offset (Please correct me if I’m wrong).
In Pennsylvania - Poke it illegal. It’s rare to get pulled over… I’d rather avoid the opportunity (and I want to pass yearly inspections).
And no…I will not put fender extentions on (they look hidious).

I’ve searched around looking at various wheels…..but am extremely limited in what’s available.
If anything - I should be able to go with 8” wide rims without any issues - other than, needing slightly larger offset to keep the wheels under the fender. 1/2” extra offset?

I’m totally new to this ‘wheel’ thing and poking around reading….but I could be way out of the ball park.

Is it that difficult to find close-to stock replacement rims in the color/style you like?

I have a 2021 gladiator Rubicon. When I bought my “fuel covert” wheels, with a -12 offset. I had my factory 33” wildpeaks, transferred onto the covert. wheels. I wasn’t thinking about it when I bought them, but as inspection time came closer, someone mentioned that it wouldn’t pass inspection as is. Pennsylvania does not allow wheel poke. There were no problems with the tires fitting in my wheel wells, there was around a 2” wheel poke. I went to the dealer and asked them if it would pass inspection, they said no. At that time, I wasn’t aware of, or there were no fender flare extensions available, other than “double black off-road”, from Australia. I did purchase them and it did pass inspection and I’ve been using them ever since. I believe now Mopar sells them. Total recon package uses them. Probably cheaper than what I paid, due to import fees and such. They got kind of banged up in shipping so I had them painted Matt black, at the local shop. They look pretty good. Also keeps the slop off the side of your rig.

OEM 285/70/17 with 8x17 Rubicon XR wheels. They are +12 offset, so it poked 0.985 inch.
