I have made that run up i17 plenty of times, she will detune if you try to run the whole climb under high boost /high speeds. I generally run it around 70 for a bit, back off for a while and then go back to 70, watching my oil temps.Just an update on my experience with P00AF. Twice in 400 miles I had this code come up (southern NV and central AZ). Both times with about 500lbs payload and not towing, both times pulling long (~3mi) grades at speed (~65mph). Immediate detune, CEL, service traction and throttle warnings. It felt like the wastegate was left fully open on detune. After the second time, I made a conscious effort to not let the turbo stay in high boost situations (drop to 35-45mph on longer grades, avoid cruise control, watch oil temps as an indicator of under hoods temps rising. Drove 2400 miles home over 4 days, fault has not presented again. No pending codes, no hard codes. My guess is that prolonged high EGT and turbo temps are causing an electronic fault somewhere that tells the computers that the turbo actuator is not responding appropriately, which causes the wastegate to default open in order to prevent a runaway situation.
anybody is in the desert and wants to try to replicate the issue, my two instances were:
NV: Warm springs to crystal springs, eastbound on rt375. Ambient temp 91°
AZ: i17 northbound from Camp Verde To Flagstaff, ambient temp 85°
Both times maintaining a constant 65-70mph
Factory height, factory 285/70r17, no aftermarket tunes or modifications to drivetrain whatsoever
I have also removed the engine cover crap and all the sound insulation foam around the engine. I also made my ruby hood vents functional and removed the cowl seal at the back of the hood to give my engine every opportunity to dump heat where ever it can.
