Headphone Jack Aux Media mod

EDIT: Not looking for alternate mounting locations; I’ve found a few easy ones. Just wondering if anyone has taken the dash apart for the the below thought.

Has anyone looked at changing the headphone jack in the media compartment on the dash?

I've upgraded my radio and in order to use carplay/android auto, I need to plug into a new USB port. I was looking at removing the headphone jack and mounting the new USB in its place. But haven't pulled the dash apart to see if that's possible.

I do. I upgraded the radio and have to plug into the new USB port (aftermarket carplay doesn't talk well stock hardware/software). Looking for a good place to mount the new USB.

Gotcha. The ones I've had installed in other vehicles like that they just slipped a USB female dongle out in the tray under the radio and HVAC controls.

I will prob go close to that route if I can't get the headphone jack out. I just figured I'd try and keep everything nicely in that area. And since I have no reason for a headphone jack, thought that could be a prime spot

so routing a new usb port to the center console wouldnt help or hijacking the usb in the center console wouldnt help? I use my carplay everyday and only use the usb port in the center console, it hides the wires, bud

I see what you're saying now. But no, I would still want my phone mounted to the dash for other uses. Carplay is good for navigation and music but still want quick access to the phone for other apps/ gps navigation (not google or apple maps)

the cable can be as long as you need, just have to buy a longer one, the console has a cut out to get the wire out and I put mine in the "key holder" but it can easily can reach the dash with a longer cable. I think altering a hidden usb port would be smarter than making a makeshift usb port in sight on the dash but you do you

If I did it (and am able to remove the aux jack) I’d dremmel and mount something like this. May not be exactly flush but the cover would still close and it would look fairly stock

Something to consider would be using one of these and affix the female USB to either the outside edge or cut a hole and epoxy it in.
