Help: Mystery Frame piece? Rough Country can’t figure it out

Background: Save the speech about how much they suck, I have been a Rough Country apologist for years and heard it all. I simply love their products… until now I guess

Installing new Rough Country running boards on my 2023 Sport and a bracket isn’t lining up because there is a flange welded to the frame that blocks it.

Try everything I can think of before finally reaching out to their customer support, who’s answer was basically “idk, never seen that flange… try cutting it off”.

Obviously not taking a grinder to my frame, so now going thru figuring out how to return a box that’s 80 lbs and 6ft long.

Anyone have an idea what this flange is? A recovery tow point perhaps? And is this only on newer models? RC website said these running boards would fit my truck

It's an added fitment that serves no purpose to the US models.

If you want to mount ANYTHING like running boards or sliders, you're going to have to cut it off. It's been discussed on the Board before and the only fix is cut it off or notch it enough so you can bolt up.

Or cut a relief in the running board bracketry.

Light touch with a cutoff wheel on a 4" grinder and it'll fall off.
