Here's one for y'all...Third Taillight Replacement

So, back in early September, I had to have my third taillight replaced because it was out. NOT a cheap replacement item...it was like $420 to get it done because it's a 'one piece' assembly and, most of that cost was actually the part. Labor at my stealership is $180/hour.

In the interim, I had some fuzzy woodland critter chew my wiring harness (the part that goes to the trailer) and it fried and melted and actually caught fire for a few seconds (I was able to simply blow it out) so, the Dealership had my truck for about two months wilst waiting for the new harness (damned strike, happy the workers got most of what the were asking for). $4400 later, new harness and all seemed to be right with the world.

Back to that third taillight assembly...I went shopping today at BJs. Came out to the truck to load my purchase into the tote bags I have then put them into the bed, under the cover.

Tried to open the tail gate. Nope. Hit the locks again and tried again. Nope. Even tried unlocking with the key. NOPE. Wouldn't open.

The clowns probably forgot to hook up the linkage that allows one to actually open the tail gate.

MORONS...hope they didn't make the installation of the new wiring harness all FUBAR too...

that center brake light cost like $70 shipped and takes about 10 minutes to install using an electric screw driver and a couple torx bits. You don't even have to take the handle out.

What did the dealership do to your truck to warrant the $4400 charge? Iam seeing new tailight and wiring harness. Anything else?

I’ll happily walk you through the replacement process, including hooking up the power locks. The others in the thread are correct that it’s a cheap part. You should go back to your dealership and get a massive credit. Just ask allmoparparts for a quote on the part. The process takes 30 minutes if you’ve never done it in your life. But that 30 minutes for me included replacing the wiring harness. If you’re just replacing the light, 15 mins max. Send me a pm with your number and I’ll call you to explain in detail.

What did the dealership do to your truck to warrant the $4400 charge? I am seeing new taillight and wiring harness. Anything else?

The replacement of the third brake light was around $440 itself.

The $4400 was to completely replace the entire wiring harness. Apparently, they have to take the entire body off the frame to get to every thing.

The harness itself was $780 and a new trailer plug assembly was $120. Everything else was labor at $180/hour.

Fortunately, my insurance company took the claim and gave me everything but my $500 deductible. A week after I got that check from my insurance company, I got a check for $570 from my health care plan as a rebate in coverage charges....thanks President Biden for the Health Care Cost Reduction Act ???
