Hey everyone — I’ve got a 41' Gladiator, but my eyes are always drawn to the CJ2A / flat fender world… and honestly even more to the old rugged Land Rover "Series" truck styling.

I’m curious if anyone here is chasing that same aesthetic on a JT.

Ideas I’m looking for (examples):

  1. Canvas tops - Would love to see a canvas style soft top that extends all the way to the back of the bed.
(Like a Bestop-style cab soft top “sewn into” something like a Softopper concept—one continuous canvas top which leaves the bed "inside" with the cab.)
Or, at the very least for my own purchasing, a canvas or tan tonneau cover.
  2. Hood-mounted storage. Anyone mount a low profile soft-top cargo carrier onto their hood?
  3. Teak/Wood/Faux Teak accents (Maybe a faux-teak SeaDek bed mat or something)
  4. Canvas / Tweed accents
(Seat covers, storage bags — not really going for tactical MOLLE but leaning more old-worldcountryside)
  5. Wheels
I have some matches for wheels already (Nomad 504 Field, Nomad Convoy, Fifteen52 Analog). Would love to see similar wheels in yellow or smoker's white?

Sharing some pics to illustrate…

Anyone know of builds to use for reference, vendors to look up, or even a title for this look I could use in my searches? "Retro" doesn't really nail it down...

Appreciate any leads!

The issue is everything you are comparing to is technically a SUV where the Gladiator is a truck. You would have a better and easier time trying to accomplish your vision with a JL or even a LJ. Like the Dynatrac Code1 which started out as a 4 door JL. https://www.motortrend.com/news/1801-code-1-wrangler-jl

Well to get you started in the right direction here’s a link for the old school styling for interior.

https://www.overland-outfitters.com/gladiator-jt.html#/

For the canvas tops and things on that nature you’ll probably have to get ahold of a heavy duty seamstress type place. Or do it yourself. It’s not hard to make wax canvas out of canvas tarps. Leather sewing/stitching gear can be found fairly easily.

hood storage I’m thinking you’ll want some business that has a CNC and does their own Molle panels. Give em dimensions and standoff from the hood and they should be able to print what you need easily enough.

definitely start a build thread when you get some things going. I like this look too but not brave enough to go down that road.

That JL looks great!

The desire for a cab area soft top integrated directly into a bed soft topper is admittedly niche for sure. It'd make for an awesome show truck.

I'm more interested in the canvas material than the full enclosure. Really wish there was a standard tonneu cover with a tan/canvas finish. The Softoppers have it but no tonneu companies I've found.

Generally fishing for a breed of overland Gladiators where the typical tactical molle is switched out for canvas/tweed.

Appreciate your response!

This link is absolutely 100% spot on and I would have never found it on my own. Thanks so much!
