Hey everybody. I recently took a trip from south TX to Kansas. After about 20 hours into the trip, I noticed a high pitched whine coming from what seems to be the gauge cluster or steering wheel. I thought maybe I was hallucinating from this ridiculously long trip, so I brushed it off... but it seems to be worsening now. :( I've got about 3,200 miles on the odometer.

I noticed if I turn the lights to 'on' and then dim the gauges, the whine seems to go away or get quiet enough where I can't hear it. This is giving me a literal headache when I drive now. Has anyone else experienced this? I have the Rubicon gauges and the 8.4 stereo - but it happens with the stereo screen off as well. I'm at a loss. :(

My 2018 JLUR had the same gauge/stereo setup and never had this issue. :(

I'm not sure if your whine is the same as my "squeal" but this happens to me almost every time I turn my wheels to drive out a parking spot or when I'm reversing into a parking spot while turning the wheel. I wasn't sure if this was an issue so I brushed it off. Would like to hear if others are experiencing this issue as well. I have a manual JT

The high pitched noise I'm hearing is definitely coming from my gauges or some electronics right around there. It doesn't seem to get worse or better with turning the steering wheel. It only gets better with dimming the gauge cluster from what I've seen so far.

My Jeep does have LED lights... but if I turn my light knob from 'auto' to 'on' (so headlights on) and then I dim the gauges, the high pitched noise seems to go away... so I'm afraid it's a capacitor or something in the gauges or the screen or something. It's driving me nuts. :(

Hi Zack and Haruyoshi,
If you both believe your vehicles are not operating as designed, we recommend reaching out to your dealers to have this looked into further. If either of you need any assistance while working with your dealers, please feel free to send us a PM!

I think mine has started doing what you're describing as well now. Sounds like some kind of steering pump whine or something - happens randomly from the engine bay. It's pretty loud.

Yeah unfortunately that's normal. I confirmed this on the JL wrangler forums and I think it has to do with new steering system I can't recall what it was called.

The gauge cluster uses an LCD display, and LCDs are prone to whine at full brightness. I agree it's super annoying. I'm going to ask my service advisor if anything can be done. Maybe they can set the auto-brightness to a tad less than full??

At the dealership now. I test drove another Gladiator and it was exhibiting the same issue. Looks like I'm going to have to live with this one for the time being.

Yeah - every Gladiator on the lot where I bought mine does it. They swapped my gauge cluster out and the noise is sooooo much better than it was, but it's still there.

The major bummer is I traded in a 2018 JLUR with the same exact gauge cluster and it never did this. They must have made changes to them - or maybe they switched to a different LCD manufacturer. Sucks.

Yep. They went with the cheapest supplier.

How hard was it to get them to switch it out? I think mine is getting worse, but the service guy denies hearing it.
