I've always kept my eyes on the Redline hood struts, but man... for $100 bucks, they just stayed on my amazon wishlist. Well the knockoffs are popping up and I picked up a set for $40 and man are they worth it, installed and work great!

**EDIT they went back up, $60 as of 4/29**

Yeah, that's what happens when you have things made in China - with their refusal to recognize copyrights and patents.

My question would be - what sort of guarantee is there on the cylinders, and how long will they last, and is the powder coating like on the bumpers?

  • Dedicated mounting brackets: Matched brackets are designed exactly based on original car mold to ensure better fit, electrophoretic black coating treatment prevent outstanding rusting proof performance, and a more aesthetically pleasing appearance
  • About installation & ARANA Support: Once you need any installation guide, unfit problem, or part missing, in-time help or 18 months replacement support will be provided if let ARANA know
Keep us posted on the finish on the brackets and so on.
Mine have been on 3 Jeeps now for several years and still look like new, no rust on the bolts and the powder coating finish is still perfect.

So - I'm wondering if these will be the same way, if so - it's a crazy good price.

Glad you like them. They didn't work out so well for me. I had these ones from Hooke Road

https://a.co/d/1A651zI

They worked fine except the one thing I realized after working on my JT is that after an hour of trying to run some cables and install the Banks Derringer and having trouble accessing the bank that I could actually open the hood more if I removed the struts and they are not meant to be popped on and off or at least the Hooke Road ones as the clip would bend every time and then it would be a pain to get it to bend back and snap back on. I eventually just took the struts off and threw them in the trash. I left the brackets in place though. If you work on the engine at all I would recommend not wasting the money on the struts as they just get the in way and limit access to the engine. Just my 2 cents.

Being my Gladiator is lifted and I'm not that tall, I've been looking for hood struts for quite awhile. It's just easier to lift it and go without having to reach up and grab the prop. I only do simple engine work so I wouldn't need my hood leaning on the windshield. In any case, its a simple install, if I need to remove it that wouldn't be a problem. I just hope these knock-offs are pretty decent and if it aren't then at least I didn't spend too much on it ;)

which are top notch and have quality quick disconnects.
Push a red wedge at the bottom socket, and pull the strut off the ball. Reverse to put them back onto the bottom ball. Takes seconds, no tool needed although with my fingers I sometimes use a coin or something to push the wedge down.
The come off easy when you want them to.
They are a must on a Mojave with the cast iron hood (Mojave requires a stronger cylinder to support the hood)

What are the chances of the knockoff lift struts closing on me?! 😬 The reviews seem pretty good, even for other vehicles. The only complaint I saw was the installation instructions.

Same, I'm only 5'11 and mine has a 6.5 inch lift with 42s. I have to pull the hood strut down when I pop the hood and use that to raise the hood. Any time I work on the engine I have to have a stand or I am on the tires cause I can't reach anything in the engine bay. Just passing on my experience but I hope they continue to work for you. They really only become an issue if you are trying to access the back of the engine bay.

I'm not being snarky here. Do a followup post in 6-12 month and let us know how they are doing. I've had my Redlines for a few years now without problem.
I’ve had my redline Mojave edition struts for 1.5 years now. So glad I got them. That Mojave hood is heavy.

Read the quotes I posted from their ad and the reason for issue with the instructions will be evident.

Meh. I just open the hood and give it a good shove, it stops at the top windsheild / roof line and then I've got lots of access. No hood prop or cylinders in the way. Straight flat creases on the hood give it character.

But seriously now, I've just rested the hood on the windshield / roof for my TJ and YJ. I can't remember tryng it on my JT. I don't know if it will work on the JT.

Those new fangled hydro cylinder jobbers look pretty neat.

That is my YJ with a TJ grill I modded a few years ago. I changed the oil in it last year and my wife took it for a spin. My dumbass left the hood latches off and she took it on the hiway. Hood opened and she pulled over and called me a gave me a well-deserved earfull.
