The gladiator is solid axle front, all sold axles will over time will wear out. The type of driving, lift, tires and stress will cause all sold axles in the front to develop death wobble at some time in the life cycle.

Only if you don't properly maintain it. If everything is tight and the joints are not worn out and the wheels are balanced you should not have death wobble especially with a stabilizer masking small issues.

FCA has had a half dozen “solutions” for this issue over the past three years.

First and foremost, let’s all agree that “vague steering” is not “death wobble.”

Having said that, it is simply baffling to see how incompetent FCA has been in diagnosing this issue properly.

When customers started complaining about vague steering FOUR model years ago now, FCA first pretended there was no problem. When complaints continued, it started having dealer re-flash their Jeeps. When this failed, it started having them swap steering stabilizers.

It wasn’t until summer of 2020 that FCA finally figured out that the real cause was a weak steering box made out of aluminum —presumably to save weight. Late 2020 and 2021 JLs and JTs started getting a new cast iron steering box.

Last August, FCA issued a TSB that instructs dealers to replace the steering box for customers coming in complaining of vague steering. Meanwhile, FCA is reported to have been been stocking up replacement steering boxes to issue a widespread recall in early 2021.

Fortunately, the steering on my JL hasn’t suffered of too much vagueness. Nevertheless, I’ll have the dealer do the swap as soon as my notification comes in the mail.

:jk:

Actually, I hope that we see fewer of these kinds of threads. There's already plenty on the subject

Too many people currently purchase trucks (not just Jeeps) and fault them because they don't handel and ride like a sedan.
That definitely plays a part but having had the steering gear replaced on my Gladiator there is no question in my mind that it changed things for the better.
edit: my dealership seems to put you on the list for replacement at the slightest mention of wander.

There’s also a problem with the stock ball joints, which apparently have plastic internal races. The Dana HD version solves the problem for some who have had death wobble. It’s not fake.
