Glad you're ok. If you buy back and repair it'll have a salvage title. Won't be able to trade it in. I know I should've taken the insurance and bought another liberty at that time. A few years later...happy with my glad.

Sorry about the drunk. They seem to be everywhere.
In my amateur opinion it does look like the frame is bent slightly. The problem can be fixed by a competent shop (you should find out where the best body shop in your area is). I’m not sure about Florida but in other states you can choose what company does the repair, not the insurance company.

There are a couple of Comments that I don’t necessarily agree with. I don’t think a frame replacement will be warranted given the minor damage and personally I wouldn’t want somebody removing everything I have and put it on a new frame. Secondly, you have a diesel so a buy back would be very hard to pull off since they are not making them anymore..

The last comment is that other driver must have been really drunk not to notice a BRIGHT RED TRUCK in front of him…

Well it just so happens that it would be so much more fun if it was the last Jeep you'll ever own. šŸ˜‚
But being serious now. I'd be interested in parts if they total it and you buy it back. Say the motor šŸ¦…šŸ¦…

I definitely wouldn't drive it again, it will never be the same in my experience!!!
Surprisingly, when I drove it home, it felt totally fine. I was being hyper aware and trying to pay attention to any little thing that I could. It was a couple of hours after the accident, so I wasn't really wound up at all.

I don't have the actual data, but I heard or read somewhere that drunk people seem to be attracted to red for some reason(they veer or swerve more towards the color).

The more I think about the title of the post, I wish I called it something different. I guess I couldnt help it, the baits can't click themselvesšŸ˜›. Also, since I love my truck so much and if I end up keeping it when I probably should move on, it could very well ve the last Jeep I ever ownšŸ¤”.

Plus, if I do buy it back if it get totalled and I need to part it out, I'll keep you in mind and will definitely be posting the parts here😁.

Was a police report taken?

I might have missed it, but was the other driver arrested for DUI or DWI?

Was the other driver insured?

One can say the other party was drunk, but legally reported facts is facts. Supposition is nothing much. Always get a police report, if you didn't.
Handshakes and agreements mean nothing in a court of law or to the insurance companies.

Yes. A police report was taken. He was arrested for DUI(conviction withstanding). He tried to leave on a handshake, but I said no(This was before I even saw the back of his truck with the boat parked in it. I have no idea how he thought he was going anywhere in that thing).

Good job, Christopher, Sir.

I can imagine that there were no trailer brakes. Maybe he went fishing and drank a 12 pack. Then trailered his boat and cruised on his way forgetting stopping distance with the trailer. Spent the night in jail and woke up wondering where he was. Sad. And your special order truck will probably be totaled. Glad nobody got hurt.

Good luck. I hope it works out it to your benefit.

I have no patience for drunk drivers. The stories I could tell make grown men cry because of the death of innocent people. Mangled and decapitated bodies laying strewn across the highway lanes because of one drunk. It makes an impact. And the drunk usually survives.

Be well. Jeep on.

Eric

If it is repaired instead of totalled, and frame damage is noted, insist on a new frame. Replacing a frame is not that hard to do, it just involves a bit of planning. We replace frames on Jeeps and trucks several times a year, and it can be done so neatly that it would take a very close inspection to tell that the frame was replaced. If a frame is bent, then pulled back out to specified dimensions, it MIGHT be as good as new, but if it is replaced it will be new.

If still thinking on keeping it. Take it to a frame shop to see how bad the frame is and if repairable before deciding on keeping it. Next would be if insurance doesn't total it. See if they would replace the frame. If they can straighten the frame. There is a thread here for the rear section of frame stiffener.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still waiting on the collision shop that my insurance company set up to give me a call for me to drop it off. The hardest part right now is just the waiting to find out how much damage there actually is.

That sucks…glad you weren’t hurt. What an idiot….šŸ˜–

I hope he has insurance AND your insurance company takes care of you and does all the legwork to get you fixed up.

If you have difficulties getting things resolved, consider getting a lawyer. DO NOT back down to anyone and/or the insurance company offering you lame reimbursements offers (or whatever). You could also get a 2nd opinion on the ā€˜worth’ of the truck (if needed).

If the truck is totaled…. (outside of any reimbursements)……. Find out how much it’d cost to buy it back. Pending your state laws….you could fix it up or make it into a sweet trail rig.
