So I just put the lid back on because we're expecting a few days of rain here in Pittsburgh. I painted the inside of the roof black prior to installing the HotHeads headliner. It turned out just about perfect! I taped to low on the leading edge of the back roof but other than that, very happy with how it turned out. My kids even said it felt more like their mom's car, luxurious.. I'm just happy it doesn't look like a cooler on the inside any more!

What paint did you use? Looks great, I hate the Igloo look as well.

I did the same. Used Krylon flat black with primer. Only difference is I didn't paint where the headliner goes (had issues with adhesion on my Wrangler, plus it saves A LOT of paint :) My helpful tip is paint it a few weeks prior to putting it on to let the paint gas off and get rid of that smell!

I did the same, luckily it was nice here for a few weeks and I could keep the top off. I even put it in the grass so the sun could beat down on it a few days in a row. I painted the whole thing because I wasn't sure exactly how deep the HH liner was and didn't want any white on the gaps. Some mineral spirits and sandpaper cleaned up for the tape and sound assassin strips. I also left the lids upside down for a few days so the tape wasn't fighting gravity as it dried.

I was worried that "flat" would be too dull, but yours look great. I did mine in Krylon Fusion satin. It turned out good, but I think I'm liking your flat better. (unsocbl) I made my own headliners. Years ago, the opinion was that Krylon Fusion satin was the closest match to the outside of Jeep tops, so I went with it. I was also worried about the durability of flat paint, but I guess we'll have to see how your roof does.

blau iii - I think all black paint looks light years better than the igloo cooler and you did a great job. Shinier paints are harder to conceal spraying flaws and you nailed it.

Here's a better shot of my paint.

Just looking at this photo I think it looks perfect, but when I see it in the Jeep the roof is more glossy than the interior plastics. I'm not going to redo it, but next time I may try flat. I used 3 cans and only put a light single coat under the headliners. The headliner cloth is a heavy cotton, so no gloss at all there.
