Mine was $1,000 but it was a hold on my card. They did not charge anything.

Another question...dumb question...never ordered a vehicle before...do you do the deal then give down payment or do you have to wait until the vehicle arrives to complete the deal. -plus, I am trading my 2016 Rubicon in and it's not paid off; how does that factor in? Dealer tried to tell me they can deal better on one on the lot but I REALL?Y want a sting gray Rubicon. They won't talk numbers until truck arrives but asking for a $1000 nonrefundable deposit. Doesn't seem right. Maybe just wait until they hit the lots!?! Please advise. Thanks!

Pricing was agreed upon BEFORE I put a down payment on it and said go ahead and order.

I used my truck that wasn't fully paid off but still had equity in as trade/down payment. We agreed on pricing before ordering with the exception of the interest rate that could fluctuate in the time of ordering. I was worried about my truck depreciating in the time and possibly the dealer lowering my trade but they were good about it and asked me to just keep the miles down.

In that situation with $1000 down non refundable I would be asking for a written purchase agreement that would include details on the trade. Honestly with the waiting that some have had to put up with on here I would be very reluctant to make a deal with a non refundable deposit.

Thanks for the heads up!

I went to my local dealer that I get all my work and parts for my current Ram truck. Told the salesman that I wanted to order a Gobi Rubicon when they became available. I told him I was a member here and that I would buy from Criswell in Maryland at 5% under invoice but I wanted to give them the opportunity first. He came back with $1000 below MSRP. I said thank you but no and started to leave. Walking past the sales managers desk he asked what was wrong and I told him $1k off wouldn't do it. He then proceeded to tell me that was just to let me know they would do something for me. I laughed and said sorry, I don't trust car dealers. So the general manager walked by and knew I got service there and asked what the other dealer would do and then said to write it up at 6% under invoice. I said sure, I will sign that deal. They stapled a $500 check to the order sheet and that will go to down payment when they get the Jeep in.
Long story short, don't sign anything that isn't exactly what you want. Had I signed the first deal as a show of faith I would be paying $1000 off MSRP.
They also valued my trade at what I consider fair and took pictures of it. I expect they will honor that offer when the JT comes in.

My dealer required 1000 down as a refundable deposit. If when it comes I wanted I could take it back. Seems a little silly it's definitely going towards the $ down. But being told 10% non refundable the salesman probably just isn't all that familiar with the process but if that was the policy I'd go elsewhere.
I emailed them to clarify that, and also that I thought it was unreasonable given what it seems others had to put down. He said that was their policy. I said that’s too bad. Guess I won’t be getting it there.

how much did you have to put down to special order? one of the local dealerships mentioned that they require 10% non-refundable deposit for a special order + some special shipping fees as opposed to buying something already on the lot. that seemed a bit steep and somewhat unreasonable to pay extra fees. the salesperson was pretty young, and seemed a bit inexperienced in selling cars so he might not have all his facts in order. this was just in casual conversation on the lot, and I didn't dig deeper since all I wanted to do was test drive one.
My dealer only required $1,000.00 down and it went to the payment. Gave me book on my trade in.

Thank you for the assistance. I, too, hate car shopping!

I put 1,000 down, refundable, but also transfers as my down payment. I had the whole deal worked out and initialed on a formal sale sheet before the order was placed, or the deposit was handed over. the only missing piece was a registration fee which can't be generated until there is a VIN in the system, once the VIN was created I returned to the dealer, got the final final numbers, verified the original deal vs the new deal to make sure the only change was in fact registration, and then my final purchase agreement was completed. now i'm waiting for final delivery from the rail yard and pickup this week.
