I don't see how I could and I've been retired 7 years......... but that's neither here nor there.
People that get out and see the whole world and other people in other places have a far better understanding of the world - and people - than anyone else possibly could.
Our limited travels have changed me in ways I never thought possible- seeing what others only see through the filters of the internet or media. The world isn't like you think it is out there.
I actually felt more secure, less concerned, when in other parts of the world surrounded by people who spoke languages I couldn't begin to understand.
I think it all started when I worked in a company founded by, and staffed at least 60% by people from the former Soviet Union.
Bill, your comment here is more powerful than most will ever realize. Travel does change us. The world is NOT what we see through the filters of the internet or media. We do our best on our channel to share the TRUTH of what we are seeing and experiencing. Not sure if you've had an opportunity to watch any of our travel videos, but hopefully that is what comes across. Thank you for sharing part of your story with me. Sounds fascinating. Would love to share a campfire with you someday. ~ Eric

Paul thank you. Love getting to know who the folks are that have been following the adventure. Appreciate you letting me know. If you ever have any questions, I'm here actively on the forum and happy to address them. There have been challenges, but the adventure has definitely been worth the price of admission. ~ Eric

Amazing! Congrats!
I must be overly tied to "the norm" because I haven't been able to figure out how to support myself for adventures like that. Retirement is coming up, and with that will bring the "time available" to go explore more, but I am certain not the funds to do it as much as I would like. Honestly, I don't think I want to be a full-time nomad, but I would love to be out exploring and traveling for 6-9 months of the year. Now convincing the wife of that number is another topic...she thinks 1-2 weeks twice a year is plenty of traveling. ha.
Enjoy your videos!

Hey Tony, I totally get it. This full-time nomadic life isn't for everyone. Even a 6 month journey can be quite a challenge. Honestly, just like anything else, eventually you simply get "used to it" and it becomes a new "norm". Having said that, this journey around the world was actually my wife's idea back in 2019. So having said that, I essentially hit the overlanding wife lottery. I"m not dragging her along unwillingly, this is her deal. I'm just the driver haha.

If I can ever be a resource for you, don't ever hesitate to reach out directly. Happy to help. ~ Eric

I retired in 2016. The first year, wifey and me did a lot of traveling in our Class A motorhome around the country. We thought we wanted to do it full time. But decided that we needed sticks and bricks. Been to every Caribbean island, some 3 times. We enjoy traveling. But to do what you and your family does. I would love to do it, but it's not in me. 3 weeks from home, and I'm ready to go back. So.........I will just live through you and your family's adventures.

Couple of questions. Have you been tracking your travel mileage? Your total amount of fuel bought? And are you home schooling your son? And how is that working out?

I'd like that - I love learning about what others have seen in their travels. Mine have been very limited, but very changing at the same time.
I'll have to check out the videos for sure.

Not an attempt to steal your thunder for sure - just a tiny glimpse of my fortune at having a son married to someone from another country (and getting to learn about their culture, unfiltered, unedited, by living and playing and talking with them (with my son and DIL as interpreter, of course) My grandson - right foreground.

Hey Russ great questions. I'll try and tackle them one at a time:

1. We track our travel mileage via GAIA GPS and via the Garmin InReach Explorer +
2. Brittany, my much better half, keeps meticulous records (she may be a little OCD) and knows down to the penny how much fuel, where we bought it, and how much we paid. She publishes a monthly expense report on our Patreon that has all of those details. I don't really concern myself with them, I just drive and pump the fuel.
3. We both homeschool our son full-time. But we really do more of an unschooling method which is child led learning. He's a pretty phenomenal cat. He's already read more than 1500 books, he is doing algebra in math, his vocabulary is at University level in the U.S., and he is conversationally fluent in Spanish. And he's just turned 7. So we're not too worried obout him. My wife who is a gifted write (she writes regularly for Overland Journal) wrote this article which talks about this in greater detail: https://hourlesslife.com/parenting-philosophy/

Appreciate you following along in the journey, and asking those great questions. ~ Eric

No thunder stolen at all! What a beautiful family. The experiences your grandson is having are precious!

Fellow Jeepers, we did it!

Today we mark 10 YEARS of full-time travel!

In this short video we look back on 10 years and share some insight and reflection on how this last decade of our lives has changed us.

We also want to be a resource for any of you who may be considering overlanding long-term. So please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us directly. It is a passion of ours to serve this community. Sure we have a Patreon and all of that, but we are happy to be a free resource. Hit us with a message or a comment any time if you have questions about what it is like to travel full-time.

Thank you so for celebrating with us. We still have a long road ahead as we continue our overlanding journey around the world.

I am an active member in the Jeep Gladiator Forum and so thankful to so many of you personally who have helped us along this amazing journey. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I initially found you on YouTube while doing my research into a JT purchase, and your channel/adventures played a part in my decision to buy my JT Mojave back in October of 2023. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DECADE OF ADVENTURE! ✝

My wife is an educator and was wondering about his education. Great to hear he is doing so well. I'm guessing his social skills match with all of your travels. Two languages are a plus as you travel about.

We took our family of 5 on a road trip to Alaska. We traveled in a Ford Excursion in the dreaded year of 2009. Fuel prices hit all time highs. We eventually made it to Cold foot AK before turning around. We hit the west coast before heading back east to Georgia. We ended up traveling for 28 days, 15,500 miles, $4800 in fuel and 8 days not in a tent.

We enjoy reading your posts.

Hi Tim!

So glad you and your family got to make that journey. Even if it was hard on the wallet, the memories are priceless. Even the hard ones. Thank you for your kind comment about reading our posts.

We've made it to Cusco, Peru now the cradle of the Incan empire and the doorstep to Machu Picchu. We plan to visit the sanctuary on the 17th in 5 days. We're pretty excited.

We have another thread here on the forums entitled, "We are driving around the world" where I share our videos about the journey as they come out. If you are interested, I'd invite you to check that out.

As far as Caspian's education. Man I wish everyone could meet this kid. He's really something else. Not because he is our son, but because of who he is as a little individual. He's firing on all cylinders. He's read over 1500 books, he's working on fractions, percentages, and even delving into algebra, he loves history, drawing, and mostly math and science, and he's conversationally fluent in Spanish. He has declared since he was 4 that he wants to be a robotics engineer. (back up is police officer haha) and he's 7 years old.

I'm amazed by him. We employ a method of "unschooling" essentially child-led learning, where he expresses what he is interested in, and we as his parents and educators are given the task of brining the core subjects to bear on what he is fixated on. That way he's excited and whether he realizes it or not, he's devouring education like a locust swarm. It's pretty fascinating to be part of it.

My wife Brittany has written several articles on the topic. You might show your wife this one: https://hourlesslife.com/parenting-philosophy/

Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you have follow up. I really believe that this method of investing in your kids is phenomenal to say the least.

Eric

I have read your wife's article and can't wait to share it with my wife. She is traveling the country trying to help fix public education. Not all children have the great resources Caspian has.
Best wishes to you and your family and safe travels.
