Hungry Valley, have you been? Impressions?

So i am new to the lemoore area, and came across Hungry Valley, looks like its a good spot to get a fix in as its also one of the closest spots. I know its not Rubicon or King of the Hammers, but looks like a good spot to practice, get a dirt fix and well introduce the wife to a bit of off roading. (trying to get her interested and want to get her behind the wheel a bit). Have any of you spent some time here? what are your thoughts? im planing on going this weekend.

it's a good spot to shake down new upgrades. You can also go up Miller Jeep Trail on the north side. But if you're new, I suggest going with a friend or two.

There's also Rowher Flat that has a range of mellow to steep climbs. Another good place to test upgrades.

I just saw where your were on the map. Hungry Valley is a bit of a trek compared to Lake Isabella with Freeway ridge trail

thanks, i myself have been off roading for a good while, looking to hit the rubicon next year, but want to get the wife wheelin too, and like i said a quick fix when i cant travel far. really apricate the feed back Rock.

Some of my Jeep buddies from work went 4/30, it was MUCH cooler there than Mojave, we kind of waited too long to do that run again.

Very mild trails except if you really go looking, and the hill climb to the North was a lesson in the benefits of a longer wheelbase. The TJ driver got a little squirrely on the way up, but since I did it first they all had to climb.

The camping is OK but I'd probably not bother again. The dingbats with the SxS's doing laps of the campground until 11 PM got on everyone's nerves - we're like, hey it's 2 hrs to home from here!

For $10 it was very reasonable.

Hollister Hills is further away, but WOW they have a nice setup there! My wife went to the Jeep Adventure Academy there in 2020, it was a GREAT time for her and the terrain options were more diverse.

If you go to Sequoia National Forest, up Hwy 180, you have some really fun options as well. The Big Meadows area is between Kings Canyon and Sequoia Nat'l Parks, and there is a fun Jeep trail from the Buck Rock lookout. Dispersed camping is an option there, I don't think you'd want to go this weekend as the weather system closed some stuff, but keep it in mind for the future.

I live near Hungry Valley, it is considered one of the best riding spots in the USA -- especially for varied terrain. It is also fun in a Gladiator. There is a 4wheel drive training area where you can test you articulation , rock crawling capabilities, etc.... Also, there are trails that take you all the way around the mountain to the moto track.
$5 to get in for the day and you get a really nice trail map. We go there all the time, I would not hesitate to recommend it.
