I had something similar. Mine started ticking at around 20,000 miles, took it in and the diagnosis was "No Trouble Found". Kept driving it, got to around 21,000 miles and the noise got a lot worse. Took it in and the mechanic said, "Oh, that's a rod knock". New engine. Runs great, smooth and lots of power. It's like driving a whole new truck! All under warranty, no cost at all.
Was it knocking all of the time or just when it was cold/just started?

A rod knock is a deeper knock and will be worse under acceleration or higher RPM and may all but disappear at idle.
It won't be there only when cold or first started.
