Which options did they force onto you that jacked the price? Was this primarily due to how they packaged options when you did a build?
Not within the packages, no. A while back, Jeep began forcing Safety Group, LED Pkg, and Proximity Locks when ordering a JTR.

The JT is my first FCA vehicle, most recently coming from 12 yrs in a Hummer H3 Alpha. Needed a pickup to do more things with my home ownership (landscaping, etc) and didn’t want a full size because I live in the middle of a large city. After test driving the Colorado ZR2, Ranger XLT, and the JT, it was the only one of the 3 that just felt fun and put a smile on my face. Could have saved money with the deals for the other two, significant money, but I asked myself if I wanted more of the same coming from my last vehicle. No! Really wanted a new experience and in the 3+ weeks I’ve had my JT Sport S it has been a fantastic drive. Believe me I was surprised over what I chose too, but it was too hard to ignore the feeling I had while I drove it that first time.

The JT is expensive for sure but a Durango SRT is not cheap and over 60K.

Here's what I will say about my experience with the JTLE. Its a jack of all trades. The versatility is incredible compared to any other vehicle. And I don't think there is a competitor who does this better than JEEP. Having this type of vehicle often means there will be sacrifices but gladly acceptable because the payoff is so much greater

I don't know what 'common jeep troubles' you speak of. Had mine 6 months and everything all good (knock on wood).

You make the best decision for yourself. Again compared to an SRT you aren't saving much (MSRP). Any vehicle will have issues, issues can be fixed! I hope you find something more suitable for you, no matter what that is. Personally, Im glad the JTLE is the route I went and would do it over again given the chance. Best of luck.
"common Jeep troubles" - We all know what he means. They're not exactly climbing the reliability ladder.

Some good points. It isn't that I can't afford the JT. For me, there isn't enough value for dollar. Yeah, the SRT costs more but I feel like it's more worth the money. At some point I hope to have both! And with mods (bumper, winch, bedliner, tonneau cover, hotheads liners, etc) I'm approaching DDSRT $ anyway.
I don't understand....are you just not interested in mid-trucks? Because its hands down the best value for all mid-trucks.

Not in particular, no. I prefer SUVs and a trailer when needed. But the off-roading, open air, and towing appeal to me for sure.

They're not exactly climbing the reliability ladder.
. . . and they haven't had to. Jeep sells like crazy despite somewhat poor reliability through brand loyalty and lack of competition. I'm prepared to deal with that in exchange for the fun factor but there's a limit to what I'm willing to spend on the front end.

Makes a little more sense on the first statement, because it really doesn't kick the shit out of any mid-truck and in many ways beats full trucks too. They cost about the same as comparable mid-trucks too.

That said...I have been in Jeeps for over 8yrs now. I have 2 of them. My JKUR I had to have the engine replaced, but early model 12s were first year models. Outside that both of them have been fine. Anecdotal but still....

After months of deliberation and research, I think (as of now :)) that I'm not gonna get the JT at this point. In my opinion, it's too expensive for what you get. I also have concerns about what seem to be common Jeep trouble issues which would detract from the experience for me as well. Perhaps the advent of the Bronco may mix things up a bit in a couple of years.

In the meantime, I have my 4wheeler and a side by side for my wheeling urges. I want something fun that can tow. The JT comes close, but for me it's too over priced and glitchy. Had I not had to wait for Gator, I probably would have bought one by now. Waiting forced me to take a really close look. The JT is a great idea and I will likely have one in two or three years.

For now, my focus is shifting to a Durango SRT (possibly from Travis!). I'll still lurk to stay educated and to ogle the pics of Gator and Hydro.
you can easily get a mostly loaded JTR for right around 51-53k, for a convertible off-road pickup, it’s more capable than any other midsize I’ve ever seen, and it’s not really a comparable vehicle to the ddsrt. I’m going to file this away with people making a comparison to a full size pickup. It’s apples to oranges.

As far as glitches go, people are going to have issues with cars no matter how old or new. Recalls and the like happen to many vehicles. I’d venture to say for every 1 person with an issue you probably have 50 who didn’t.

I guess you gotta ask yourself if you were ever in the market for a JT in the first place. Other than engine power, what are you getting in a Durango that you aren’t getting here? Comfort maybe? And you’re going to spend 10k more for that? Idk man seems like clickbait.

Of course they're not comparable. There are many branches in any one person's decision tree.

I personally feel low 50s it too much. Just my opinion. Therefore looking for something else. Certainly not another mid sized p'up, or full sized for that matter. Didn't really want a pick up in the first place, as stated several times. Love the open air and towing it brings. Still want one. :)

It doesn't offer the towing capacity I need (tall cargo trailer, 4500 - 5000 lbs).

I had decided on the Rubicon to best suit my needs/wants. Was waiting on Gator release. In that time, Jeep raised the price of the Rubicon by $2550 by forcing options that many of you didn't have to take prior. Plus a few other raises here and there.

It's frustrating, but maybe if I wait Jeep will offer a V8 in it. Or maybe Ford will offer an open air full sized Bronco. Or the regular Bronco will tow 6-7 K. Or the JT pricing will come down substantially. None of which will happen, likely.
Yep the new options they force is crap. So glad I got my Gator order in during the first three days of ordering. Also saved another $200 then because of the cost of two of my options went up.

For me though nothing else compared to the JT. I needed towing capacity, removable doors, and convertable roof. Not a single other manufacturer had anything comparable to me.
