I had a JK for six years and didnt mind it, but I'll agree the JL is more refined. Earlier JL's are in the price range too.My mom has a 4dr Jk, my wife has a 4dr JL. I wouldn't spend my money on a JK. The JL platform is so much more comfortable riding. Better at being water tight also.
My MIL has a 2015 Grand Cherokee and it's pretty comfortable, I used it as a commuter for a few day not long ago. No clue about the fuel economy of it.
The GC would make a better traveling rig. Quieter and more comfortable ride. The JLU would make a better exploring type rig.
We travel for several hours at a time in our JLURD or the JTRD. Both are doable really. A GC or similar would be a little nicer. But we like our "rugged" Jeeps.
Tami hinted that if I got us a WK2 I'd probably never see it again cause she would drive it over the van - but if I had another Wrangler she would drive it fine but wouldn't try to take it over as her daily
