Howdy All,

I have read on this forum that if your rig didn't come with LED lights that in order to get the fog lights which are LED on the stock steel Rubicon bumper to work they need to be "flashed" by the dealer. I should add that when I first installed the bumper, I turned on the fog lights and they worked, I turned them off, they haven't worked since.

Today I took the rig into the dealer to get a recall done, something to do with re-flashing for some engine light problem that I never had, anyway I asked the dealer if he could do the fog light flash at the same time, he said it would be an extra 189.00 bucks to do this and he couldn't guarantee that it would work.

When I was told my rig was finished, he told me they tried to do a flash to make the fog lights work but it didn't fix the problem so he didn't charge me for it but said I should make an appointment to have the problem diagnosed and fixed at the regular shop rate per hour. This sounds SCARY and EXPENSIVE.

Has anyone else had this happen when installing the OEM steel bumper, how did you resolve the fog light problem, would a TAZER fix this? Thanks for any suggestions or help you can provide.

I bought a steel bumper for my rubicon not too long ago, came with the mopar fog lights but no harness, I swapped the harness from my plastic bumper and halogen fog lights to the new led ones. Everything worked for about 10 minutes, now the lights will not come on at all. I’m guessing it needs to be flashed but I’ve also heard that if it’s not flashed and you try to turn them on it could burn out the lights. I’m hoping that hasn’t happened to me.

Either way I did find a cheaper solution to go around the tazer method but haven’t committed to the idea. Another user said that he used a cheaper Bluetooth scanner, adapter, and jscan to enable the lights. I have the links to those products if you want.

Howdy fishburger,

So did the person who wrote this CHANGE from his stock halogen bulbs to an aftermarket LED fog light bulb? The stock steel bumper I bought came with LED bulbs, the mounts are completely different the the halogen mounts that are on the old plastic bumper. I had thought of just switching the halogen mounts from the old bumper to the new one but this would be a very involved process involving cutting and welding which I am capable of but don't want to do.

This was for a set of led headlights I believe, I’m going to give it a shot as my led fog lights that came with the steel bumper aren’t working. And if you want to go all led might as well go ahead and get the stuff to make it work
