Hi all,
I'm hoping to purchase a used Gladiator soon. Our family outgrew our old LJ Wrangler, and we miss having a Jeep.
I'm close to buying a 2021 Mojave for sale near me, but I'm wary of having to spend money replacing shocks right away. This right rear shock has some buildup around the top that feels like tar. I'm not sure if it's just road debris that didn't get washed off, or if there's oil leaking there and attracting dirt. I can scrape it off with my fingernail. Other shock leaks I've seen, including ones on this forum, are usually down around the piston, so maybe this is nothing to worry about.
Another thing that concerns me a little is that the dealer says they replaced the right rear spring (although it doesn't look new to me). It just makes me look more carefully at the shock on that wheel than I might otherwise.
What do you think? Dirt? Small leak not to worry about? Indicates suspect use, and run away? I know I'll end up spending a lot of money on the Jeep anyway; just trying to pick a good one to bet on. I don't even mind the money too much, but I don't want to get caught without replacement parts available. I like the vehicle other than this shock.
Thanks!
