What type internal battery does it have. My experience with lithium types in these booster/power packs has been disappointing. After a short service life, it will not charge, the battery swells, and cracks the case. Have things improved from a few years ago?

It is a Lithium Ion battery. I have only used mine a few times and had good success with it until just recently the AC plugs stopped working. After some troubleshooting they told me to just send it back and they sent me a prepaid shipping label. Heck they sent me a new unit before I could even pack the other one up and get it sent back. Jackery Cutomer service has been excellent. I am thinking about buying solar panel to use to recharge out in the outdoors. If you plan to run heavy stuff off of it suggest to look at the 500 or the 1000 but I needed something small that is packable in my kayak

Wow, with customer service like that, it's worth checking out.

IMHO small lithium ion batteries that work for charging phones are an excellent purchase.

Stuff like this, much much less so.

Give me a Honda eu1000 generator for larger tasks any day. Much more power. Much more energy. Nearly silent. Much more versatile.

Yes, they cost more money. But even the HF knock offs are excellent.

Yes of course I have had a Honda EU2000 for going on 12 years and its still going strong. Love that thing. if it were to die I would likely try the HF model as some friends have one and they have loved it and its much cheaper. I just use the Jackery when I am on kayaking/camping trips where small is necessary but can power up phones, etc for days. Even use it to power small portable cpap but will only get about 3 or 4 days use.

I trust Lithium Iron Phosphate a lot more than Lithium Ion chemistry but still wary. I had one of those Li Ion jump start/USB charger items that cooked itself after 3 months. I am very meticulous/ AR with instructions and electronics.

Wait until you have some devices that simply won't work on those small pocket size charging batteries used with phones and such.
These power packs are great for a number of things.
Mine is a very old version of some of these - it's mainly for jump starting vehicles, but - it has a really bright light on it, it has a 12v outlet that has pretty high output, and I can use a 12v outlet to USB adapter and charge several usb devices at one time - as much as the adapter will handle. It sits nicely in the back corner of the truck bed, if I run the truck battery low for some reason or are out and about and someone needs a jump, or I do - it will start a vehicle, it will provide bright light, and it will charge all the USB devices I want charged. No gas, no noise, no hoping the gas is fresh and it will start when I need it, etc. It also will charge via 110 or 12v "lighter" so I can charge it as I drive and know it's fully charged when I get there.
Each has their purpose................

I agree. I think the problem is that the really large batteries tend to misrepresent the amount of energy they contain.

Its funny. I used to have a lead acid based jump pack with a 120v and 12v outlet. In order for a lead acid battery to have enough power to start a car it had to have a ton of actual energy in it.

After 15+ years of use it finally died and I replaced it with a Lithium based jump pack. Its here where I learned of the plusses and minuses of Lithium. Because Lithium batteries are so much more powerful the pack was 1/3rd the weight. But I soon discovered that it also had a lot less energy than my old lead acid pack. I forgot that LiPo batteries are so good at making power that a battery with much less energy storage capacity was necessary.

The biggest issue was running a pellet grill for a couple of hours while cooking out in the parking lot at our ski area. ha. First world problem I know. I just used my eu2000.

Re fresh gas - ever since they stopped using MTBE as an oxygenator, I've used Cam2 unleaded race gas in all my small motors. I can get it for $10/gal. I use about 2 gal/yr in my snow blower and 2 or 3 gallons per year in everything else. (generators, weed hacker, chain saws, etc)

So for an extra $35 or so per year I never have to worry about my stuff being destroyed by bad gas. Stabilizers work ok. But they aren't as good as getting gas that is simply engineered to last 4 years like the Cam2. Metal gas cans help a lot also.

Likely one made specifically for HF.
A lot of companies do that - Lowe's, for example, sells name brand product models you can't buy any place else. John Deere, Troy Bilt and others make specific models of things for specific stores.
I've run into that on quite a few things - try to get parts for a very specific model of something to find out that model was sold only through certain stores.
My generator rig is a national name brand - but the model I have is specific to Menards.

A spray gun I have is from Sears - the model was only sold through Sears but I can get parts direct through the manufacturer of the gun.
This. These are SMU’s (special make ups). Or, basically a store exclusive.

I guess the biggest surprise is that Jackery, a well known and respected mfr, is being sold at Harbor Freight. I don’t think I’ve seen any other product at HR that fall into that category. May be Reese hitch products?

Before I get flamed, I have a coouple HF items including the predator 2000w inverter generator. Great value and exactly what I need for my purposes.

I’ve got the 240 series from them. I’ve had it for about 6 months and it’s been flawless. It fully charges my iPhone XR more times than I can count on one charge (WELL over 10x). It handles my laptop charging as well when I don’t want wires across my living room floor lol.

I haven’t tried charging/powering anything else on it though. I’m pretty sure they make a 1500W one as well which is pretty nuts

Same here. Love it. I can run my 35L fridge for 18 hours set at 34 degrees. That's pretty impressive for this little unit. I've also got a Jackery 60w solar panel that charges the thing fairly quickly and can directly charge a cell phone or computer at the same time.

Similar versions in other stores carry the same or similar features but different model numbers. Maybe the Menards version has a single handle while the model with the same output in another store has a double handle but a bigger price. It actually gives more choices in a way.
Yes to this as well. I spent a large part of my career working in athletic footwear. Often times a retailer, say Dick’s Sporting Goods, would meet with our sales and product teams and say, “I want shoes to look like “X” model, but retail at “X”, with a margin of “X,” and only we can carry it. So our product teams would build it to look like the higher end item, but pull out a lot of tech to reach their MSRP and margin requirements. I imagine the same is true here, and in many other industries.

I've been looking at maybe getting the 60W panel to take camping good to see it is able to charge it up.
