Has anyone noticed all the add ons when you go to the build tool for Jeep. They finally added 8 inch screen and body color fender flares for sport s as well also lots of Mopar upgrades on the site

But check max tow and you lose the body color fenders.
I just tried to build a Sport S with max tow to the specs I wanted - would have gotten instead of the overland, every time hit the body color fenders it unchecked max tow. When I checked max tow, it unchecked the body color fenders. There's a lot of give and take yet.

Yep. Made 8.4” available on Sport S but added $3200 because it adds $1000 for the 7”, $1600 for 8.4”, $600 for convenience pkg. so you have basically have to pay $1000 for the 7” and then $1600 to bump that up to the 8.4” and add alpine speakers. That’s putting the price of a Sport S pretty high up there. Add max tow and a few other thing and you pushing $50k for a sport (albeit well optioned sport)

I tried the changes last night - built one the way I'd want it. 52,000 or so MSRP and it still didn't have body color roof or body color fenders because you STILL cannot get those with the Sport S WITH max tow.
Check the body color fenders, then check max tow - the fenders change back to black. Check max tow first, then change to body color fenders - oops, max tow is gone.
If I could have gotten the body color fenders and roof, the 8.4" screen and all of the other options with max tow - that's what I'd have.
Build one like you want, then go to the bottom and see if things aren't unchecked or gone that you are sure you checked. They keep taking xxx off when you check yyy so you still can't build a Sport S the way I'd want one. I'd even settle for the katzkin leather because our dealer was willing to get that for me at the same price as the factory leather if things had worked out.

I noticed the tricks on the screen - wow, they build on the other things, they don't remove them and put the 8.4 in place making it pretty pricey.

Black hard top added to both a sport S and rubicon with the options I’d order.

So $4,900 gives you lockers, e-disco, 84:1 crawl ratio, leather stitched dash, rock rails, 33” tires, Rubicon suspension and a more aggressive hood. Sure makes the Max Tow more appealing to me, considering what $4,900 can get you in the aftermarket.

On the surface that appears to be true BUT I ran through these scenarios

1) the Rubicon or aftermarket hood costs $1500 with good paint
2) stock rock rails are worth $200 in resale
3) ARBs are $2500 with a compressor
4) rubicon wheels and tires are worth $500+ more than sport wheels in resale

so it’s really $2400 more, $1900 more if you’re swapping shoes and $400 more if you want the hood and $400 cheaper if you want the rubicon flares. $600 cheaper if swapping the rails, $800 if swapping rear bumper.

Resale value likely makes up the difference just factoring in the locker addition

It's more like +$3700 more invoice.
You forgot the higher fender flares and rock slider under the bed.

Yea I built out the Sport S Max Tow and it came to about 50K but no matching fenders. If I removed some things I guess I could get by without then it knocks it down to about 45K but its giving up a bunch of stuff I would like being its a daily driver and those features would be nice. Interesting as you all mention they don't replace it with the 8.4 and charge you the $1600 but rather they add and add and then it snowballs into a very expensive 8.4 System.

And why do I need to get the Convenience Group when upgrading the sound system on the Sport S? I don't even have a garage and don't need a $600 garage door opener. Never needed remote start before, no reason for it now.

I have to ask - is this the first vehicle some folks have ordered, or bought new, or the first time not bought off the lot?
So many packages and package options and combinations are not new with JT, not new or unique to Jeep - but such things have existed since at least the late 60s. Even with the 70 I sold, you have to buy a whole package of stuff to get one thing. Want the rally wheels - you had to buy a whole package. Want the gauges? You get heavy duty front springs, and 3 or 4 other things.

Yep. Look at Ford’s builder tool. To be able to get “this” or “that” you have to get “this” trim level and accept all the stuff that goes with it and there’s only a few packages. Can’t remember which package it was on the ranger I was using to compare prices when they came out but one turn off with the ford for me was to get the nicer sync stereo you had to get the package that included all the chrome accents. I wouldn’t want all the fake chrome so that means I couldn’t have the nice stereo then. Jeeps no different. Just not as bad.

1st vehicle ordered. 3rd new overall.

I understand the packages from FCA’s point of view, and don’t have a problem with most of it. Every so often, there’s part of a package that consumers won’t live without that they didn’t know they wanted. I have had heated seats before, but the heated steering wheel is a nice touch.

having said that, if I could do it over again, I would probably have gone with a sport s vs the overland I ordered. I thought the blue looked much better with the colored fenders/front bumper and that was the tipping point for me. I mapped out costs of everything I liked vs doing it aftermarket.

but with this appearance package, I would have likely went sport s, kept the 5” radio, went with the oculus headlights, and put on a pair of rubicon take off wheels and saved a bit of money even after I upgraded the radio/speakers.
