On the floor mat take the little Capet oval out underneath the drain hole. It is pre cut and you can disconnect it by hand or a razor blade. Underneath is a rubber body plug. Take it out. Place and push the mat so the drain extends down through the hole. Now put the rubber plug in the foot area. If you have water or melted snow in the mat when you pull the plug it now will drain out through the hole. But water won’t come up inside.

I'm in the same boat as @steffen707 in wanting to make sure of two things first:
1. If you pull the plug, can you see down?
2. is there some type of mechanism to keep crap (water, bugs, etc) from 'backflowing' ?

This video shows us. I guess you take the plug out and put it back into the floor mat. Stuff i suppose could splash up and get the carpet wet, but it looks like there's something blocking it from being a straight shot down. Like a frame rail maybe?
