I can see people choosing tacomas over gladiator for liability concern or beliefs that it will last long

I'm sure that is true for some prospective buyers. But I think most people buy Jeeps for the 'fun' factor and not the reliability factor. Top down, doors off, customized to the hilt, off road fun. A Taco is just long-lasting, reliable boredom by comparison.
