I use my lockers, disco and 4:1 everytime we take a trip. Could I bump it hard and make it? Sure.
But slow and controlled is much better 800 miles from home.

What are you doing that a sport won't handle?
Even the Rubicon and mojave need help with ground clearance and breakover angle especially. Even on 3.5" of lift and 37s it still feels like I drag this thing through a lot of places where the JLUR doesn't even scrape. I still love the thing in the desert, and it's ok on the rocky trails but it's not great. If we are talking stock sport with car tires I wouldn't even feel comfortable with the driveway in monsoon season.

Lockers are obviously superior in some situations, but I think many people underestimate the capability of BLDs.

There is going to be an advantage to the 4:1 transfer case in some crawling situations, but in 1st gear the 2.7:1 case is so low that it’s going to be fine most of the time, and I have 4.10s which helps offset that as well, at least compared to a Sport without the Max Tow package.

Couldn’t care less about the sway bar disconnect, 2 wrenches and mine are disconnected in about a minute. When I get a lift I’ll equip it with Apex disconnects.

I wanted a Rubicon for the lockers. Price delta was too much for the spousal unit to approve, so a Max Tow Sport S is the next best alternative. So far it's taken me everywhere I've needed to go, and I have recovery gear and have used it. I am under no illusion that it will get me through everything.

Stock Sport all-season tires are garbage, that's a fact. The good news is that wheels and tires are the first thing most of us swap out.

Buy what you want, can afford or what your wife will permit, LOL.

My reasons are a bit different but mainly I wanted a brand new Gladiator with the upgraded tech ( coming from of a 2021 Mojave) This particular Rubicon had a 4670.00 dealer discount and another 7500 in retail incentives. It was the only Gladiator on the lot with that steep of a dealer discount. ( Factory to Dealer incentive) Not to mention I fell in love with it when I drove it, plus it had all of the features I wanted. My first Rubicon ever in all of my years of owning Jeeps. Everything else ( mentioned by others) Is just gravy IMO.

Do you think a Rubicon performs better in a JT or JLU?

Wider axles, lower gears, 2 lockers

And, like Willys, the name carries a certain amount of prestige.

I only went with a Rubicon because they made me a deal I couldn’t refuse. Add ons to my liking would’ve been much more than the price diff for me.

I was primarily looking for 4:10’s and the wide 44 axle towing package. I planned to install an Eaton LSD offering in front and rear with Michelin LTX Defenders, then remove front and rear sway bars, and install Rancho RS7MT shocks all around.

https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/e...ormance-differential-application-guide-en.pdf

This would be the best in the tough terrain I ride daily and most well behaved on icy improved surfaces.

In the end, the price difference was only like $1,000 between the two models that I had searched inventory for.

I always joke with people that “I’m off-road to much to add all of that off road crap”. I’ll get maybe $12k out of my tires and the truck will be broken or worn out within 4 years.
