I am also curious if the space would be big enough for a camp stove.

Inside dimensions 47”x 10 3/4” x 3 3/16”. So no way on the camp stove or even a JetBoil for that matter.

I like it. And could definitely see myself using it for tie down straps, work gloves, HiViz Vest and so forth. Do the release buttons get depressed when locked? Like if I ran my motorcycle tire over it while loading or stepped on it would it depress or is it possible to break under too much weight?

I love everything about this except one. The key. If it could be keyed alike to the factory then I would order one and throw the usual always on hand recovery, jumper cables etc in there locked away.

Did this exact thing to my tailgate last month. So far im pretty happy with it. I did not use the self tapping screws it came with to secure the box, instead I did rivets. Personal preference.

As long as you can access the latch and camera fully for replacement, I see this as a good solution over bolts
