Well - unfortunately my Jeep met the side of a Peterbilt wrecker a few nights ago during a sudden onset snow/ice storm... Good news is that the Jeep appears to have done shockingly well! It was unavoidable as the wrecker lost control and got completely sideways sliding down an icy hill and slowing considering he spanned the road ditch to ditch so was dragging bumpers. I had no choice but to brake and then lost control and was gaining speed toward him I made every effort to pitch into the ditch on either side of the road but there was no control authority. Ultimately I contacted him perfectly square on the passenger side front tire right into the access pane bays of the aft end of his truck. I then bounced off and finally found that ditch I was looking for. No airbags deployed but the visual damage assessment is:
- Front bumper (the plastic one)
- Scuffing on the rim and tire
- Fender is scratched and hanging on barely
- flare LED broken
- and then the worst... the axle appears to be offset driver by about 1-1.5inches - so the steering is about 90 degrees out to go straight
- finally 'Service Electronic Stability Control' is lit up
There may be some damage to the grill and undercarriage/other steering components but it was hard to lay under there in the snow and dark to get pictures. I am hopeful that the axle offset is a bent track bar only and nothing bent or cracked on the mounting brackets.
Longshot but is anyone familiar with how this process works - I am obviously hands on so would rather collect the check and upgrade in a perfect world nothing is bent but the track bar and I can replace with the YETI, then replace the bumper with either the stock steel MOPAR or something better... I am curious about the process if some portion has to go to the shop for the ESS servicing and ultimately the alignment. It has a lien and is insured by Liberty Mutual.
Pics or it didn't happen right?
