It's so simple in fact it's better to just go that route than crawl around junkyards rigging things to work...unless of course that's just what you get off on doing. I dig that too.
You hit the nail on the head right there. I'm not sure why, but straight bolt on stuff is kind of a let down. I guess I miss the FAFO of it. I don't have the fabrication equipment (or skills) to do custom builds but my favorite childhood memory was putting the built '74 307 and posi rear end in my '85 ElCamino. That thing RAN

Yeah lemme tell ya...from my racing experience, things like engines and transmissions and differentials are finely tuned perfection down to ten-thousandths of inches. We machine lifter bores so close you can't even fit half a hair between the lifter and lifter bore. That stuff is super precise. Like NASA close tolerances.

But the rest of the car? One huge slap-ass rig-job. Race cars are the perfect mix of extreme precision and laughable shade-tree duct tape shenanigans. I've crawled through countless scrap yards looking for things "that will work" for various projects.
