Decided I would change out the knee speakers this past weekend and all in all it was a simple task. Found a good video on youtube and the process was straight forward. Now.... I went with the Metra 6.5 pods and the DS18 Pro 6.5 speakers. Driver side pod went great, but the passenger side pod was a bit different. The magnet was too big for the enclosure. I got it in, but was not happy with it. Went ahead an buttoned everything up and was ready for some sound. DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! Now it is definitely louder, but you lose a good bit of your "boomy" bass. I was also getting a bottom out type sound. I am guessing the pods do not have suitable airspace for the speakers (also added poly fill in the process). Dejected but not down, I went ahead and purchased some Kicker two way 6.5s and reinstalled them the same day. I must admit...I am an expert at taking apart that dash now. Now the Kickers fit perfectly in the pods, but I got the same bottom out sound and same loss of bass. I told myself to give it time for break in and maybe it will get better. NOPE... Yesterday driving home I had enough. Pulled up and started at 4:30PM removing the 6.5s..... I reinstalled the OE pods with speakers (added poly as well) and at 5:45 I was back to having a bass filled cab. You would not think the ported pods make any difference, but you would be wrong like I was. I might try to swap in some DS18 4" in the near future, but for now I can relax with the sound I love.
