recently I backed into something denting my tailgate not bad but it chipped the paint pretty good. Then I thought of getting a tailgate wrap after getting the dent out, but you still might be able to see the dent , so I’m thinking of line-x’ing the area just like a wrap. If I line-x I will get body match color any thoughts ?

My thoughts, it will always look like you have tried covering something. External bed lining body panels over time age badly, even the color match ones. They will attract dirt and even if they use a UV blocker mix or top coat, it will still fade over time and never have the same day fresh the day it was applied look.

As a former Wrap shop owner/installer, of you can feel the imperfection when you run your fingers across any area you think may be affected (paint chip) and can feel it with your fingertips, a wrap will magnify those imperfections big time, and because you know it's there your eye will always be drawn to it.

IMHO, get the dent out and get it repainted or just live with it.

I have the factory bed liner and while it’s super durable, it retains dirt and dust and has taken on a grayish hue as a result. The surface is far too irregular to clean. It’s a utility coating not a cosmetic one.
