Thinking about getting a mesh top so I can keep my freedom tops off more frequently (like during a full work day) with worry of bird presents or other unwanted things.

Looking for one that.....
  • Only covers the front seats
  • Can be kept on with the freedom panels installed
  • Doesn't require tilting the windshield forward to install
Does such an animal exist??

Best ones on the market. Ran this brand and a spider shade before the jtop on my JKU and the jtop was far superior to the spider shade. Fits better and uses better straps. Also no need to lower the windshield.

I got the Dirty Dog 4x4 sunshades off Quadratec and love them. They’re real thick and durable and have multiple colors. I wanted it to block out some of the Florida sun while driving with the top off during the day, and it does just that. They have front only and you don’t have to move the windshield to install. Very easy install. I got front and back and they stay on all times under my soft top. I’d assume they’d work the same under your freedom panels.

I have the 2 piece Shadeidea (Amazon) and keep in on year round with my freedom tops (winter) and with my recently installed BestTop Sunrider top (summer) which replaces the freedom panels. Very durable, have been in since last June and no complaints. You don't have to remove anything to install - except the freedom tops. You fish the front fasteners between the windshield frame and trim (per the instructions). I purchased the one piece (from and back) and switched it out to the 2 pieces because the one piece goes over top of the sound bar and satellite antennae. Looks strange. Plus, with the 2 piece set, you can just run the front piece if you want.

I'm using the Shadeidea 2 piece from Amazon like DBravo above, and LOVE IT!

Great mesh top, keeps the sun out, easy install (no need to move windshield), and you can do front, back, or both... I'm using both with my top open or closed. Quieter, cooler, mesh tops are nice for guys like me that burn in the sun ha.

This isn't the best picture, but gives you an idea. I'd totally buy them again.

I just looked at the one for the fronts. It does require lowering the windshield.
All I had to do was loosen the windshield and tilt it forward an inch or so. I have a dash camera installed so it’s not able to be fully laid down unless I unhook everything first. No reason to lay it down for the instal.

Great price too. I was just looking on their website. They have a 15% off sale right now. Just $60 for the front piece.

Do you have to lift the hard top rear to install it?

I can't imagine why you would have to, particularly for the front only, the front mesh panel just loops around the middle rollbar/soundbar, the two sides, and they have a simple way to slip it through the front bar without having to move the windshield.

But, having said that I installed with my soft top installed (I keep the mesh tops installed too at same time even with my top closed). DBravo said above though he runs both front and back with his hard top installed, so I doubt you'd have issues.

It's a really simple install with good directions. If there is any room at all above the soundbar and hardtop, you'll be fine without removing it.
