I've had my JT Overland for roughly 8 months now and I'm looking to start making some changes. It is my daily driver but I do plan to go on some trails a handful of times a year. I live in the midwest so I do see snow. The Jeep is currently entirely stock. I have a Teraflex 1.5in leveling kit purchased and waiting to be installed w/ the upgraded lower control arms from the 2in mopar kit.
I'm looking for help with wheel and tire combos to go with this leveling kit. I know I want to get rid of the 18in overland wheels and get 17in. I'm not looking to spend a huge amount on wheels as I'd rather get the tires I want and stick in budget. I'm looking at either getting 17in stock Rubicon take offs or getting 17in Mammoth steelie wheels.
As far as tires, I'm stuck between 33s and 35s, I'd like to avoid needing to regear due to cost. I like the look of 35s more but want to not hate driving the Jeep or feel like if I don't regear I'm causing harm. I'm pretty set on Falken Wildpeak A/T3Ws, but occasionally do look at Toyo ATIIIs and BFG KO2s. I'm really stuck between a few sizes, 285/70/17, 33/12.5/17, 315/70/17 and 35/12.5/17.
My main questions:
1. 17in Rubicon take offs vs steelies? Will I be adding too much weight?
2. 33s vs 35s w/ 3.73 gears? I see so many conflicting threads on 35s w/ 3.73s? Would I be okay with the Falken 315s?
