So one of the benefits of my commute home is a large section of open desert/hills that I can cut through to not only save about 10 minutes (if I don't get distracted ha), but to also wind down after work. Well out here in this fine and dandy desert environment, it's been raining the last few days, so there's a few good mud pits that I can cross through for giggles if I so feel inclined. I've gone through here about a hundred times at this point.
Well today apparently I decided that I wanted to be an idiot and went through one of these pits in just about the worst way possible:
1: Too fast.
2: Across it sideways, rather than following the tracks from other vehicles like I usually do.
Yeah, I bottomed out HARD, bounced off the seat and smacked my head on the roof. Yeah, I deserved that for being an idiot. I had stopped in the middle of the pond, slowly went through and found a flat and dry spot to check and see if I broke anything. Saw steam coming off the exhaust and water pouring out of the SKID. Went to the gas station a few miles away and took some pics:
It's hard to see from all the mud and poor angle, but I can see the grooves right at the bottom of where the trans and transfer case would have smacked the bottom of the pond.
Yikes! Plate was the MVP today, smacked the hell out of it and my back hurts now, I'm just glad that it looks like that's the only reminder. Won't be doing that again.
You can really see how big a splash I made, I got mud up behind the cab, the truck was clean this morning.
Lesson of the day: Have fun, but don't be an idiot.
