For the past couple of days I been playing with different configurations and options for a New Gladiator order.

One of the things I came across is that when you get the dual top option, it forces you to pick a tonneau cover.

I think I am missing something on how these things work or is it just a money grab? Can someone tell me why a tonneau cover would be needed just because you select the dual top option?

I have no need for a cover and it would just be in the way or something else I have to remove / store in most scenarios I would be using my Jeep for. I don't really want to spend an extra $650 dollars for something I have no use for.

Since they put the soft top in the bed of the truck, they require a tonneau cover when you get the dual top option.

Thanks, sounds like an expensive solution just to cover a shipping logistic issue.

Yep and when I opened the tailgate to show the salesman he was surprised. What surprised me though was the size of said crate.

I love the mopar cover. It is so easy to use and the quality is fantastic. If you really don’t want you could always sell.

Wow, the soft top is really big......

So I know this might not be the correct sub-forum, but what level of effort is needed to switch between the hard top and the soft top ?

What's the price of the option for the soft top that includes the tonneau, vs just the soft top as a part?

And what's the price of the standalone tonneau?

the effort is.....great. I've only had my truck for 24 hours, but from what I understand, you need to remove all the hardtop stuff and then the soft top has it's own dedicated brackets and mounting points that need to be screwed in BEFORE you can mount the actual top. All that stuff needs to be removed before switching back to the hardtop again.

There is no option to just order a soft top, most of the models come default with the soft top and you have an option to upgrade to a hard top (or dual top). You can't select the Dual Top option without having 1 of the 3 different tonneau covers.

The dual top option is $2395 unless you already have the hard top selected in a different package, then its only $1100.

The tonneau covers range from $595 for the roll up to $995 for the hard tri fold.

@surfisher2a I swapped the hardtop and soft top on my wife's JLU a month ago and it wasn't as daunting as I was expecting. Probably took me an hour, but I think I could get it done faster the second time. I have a hoist for the hard top so I've got a good system for removing it. The soft top brackets use all the same hardware torx sizes as the hard top so an impact and the jeep tool set make it faster.

The soft top alone is $2100

The hard top alone is $2395

Is it $2395 with the tonneau or before? If with do it. If before then just buy the top afterwards if you don't want the cover. Would be same price.

The initial setup takes about an hour, Assembling the frame with the weather seal and lining up the bolts for the installation takes the most time. I had my Lange hoist from my JKU and there was an adaptor kit from Lange for the JT hard top. I have it down now that it now takes about 15 min to change out the hardtop and soft top.

I love the soft top and its takes 3 seconds to open and close, you never have to take out the rear window and it is easy enough to open and close when you are out and about. I swapped out the tops 2-3 times when I first got it, but I leave the soft top on now probably from mid April through November.

If you don't have a hoist it will probably be an additional 5 min + whatever storage solution you come up with, but it can be done by yourself as the hardtop is very light and can be lifted out standing in the bed. (I'm a big guy- so maybe smaller people need assistance w/o the hoist.)

BTW, its mostly box, its big because the frame sides are fixed and do not collapse, A Big U shape. Its easy to store the soft top on a couple of hooks in the garage and it comes with a snap on Vinyl cover when folded up and off the jeep. (disclaimer I have the premium top)
