Today I was driving to work and I discovered something thinking... "what if". I was rolling to a stop sign at ~45mph and was going to put the shifter into 1st and hold it until I stopped, because why not. BUT. But I discovered there is a safety mechanism that I physically can't even hit the synchros into 1st. It feels like there is a physical barrier preventing this to happen (for obvious reason). While there is a physical blocker, the dash shows a message and has warning chirp.

Has anyone else discovered this? I am curious.

I have not, but it's probably good that the engineers thought of such a thing ?

Thanks for testing that out. ??

This is the reason we have SOP’s at work.

People want to see how wide that grey area really is.

I haven’t experienced this but I did read about the feature in the manual.

Yes, agreed that it feels like the syncros won't allow it - much like an old SM420 with a granny gear. And it's not just first. If you also try to put it into a low gear at a high speed it flashes a warning and won't let you.

45 sounds a wee fast to spin up the syncros in 1st anyway. Good to know it's desperate to defend itself.

Sounds like when I was learning to drive at 15, why not just put it in first coming up to the stop sign?

No magic blockers in the transmission linkage, just a big fat NOPE from the gearbox!

yeah, I missed 3rd downshifting one time and saw the warning... I got a kick out of it.
