Wow, looks like an awesome time! Keep posting outings, I am in Colorado Springs and would love to join. We have been extremely busy the last couple months but I would love to make it out one of these weekends coming up!

They will increase in frequency. I am in ed and off all summer. Expect mid week trail runs and camping.

Awesome - I work from home and can occasionally do some mid-day stuff. I'm planning to knock out quite a few 14ers this summer so weekends will be hit or miss, but would love to do some off-road camping type trips as well. There are a few 14ers that have some fun jeep trails to the upper trailheads and nice camping spots if there is any interest in combining the two possibly!

Blanca is like that, if memory serves me.

Yep, that is Lake Como road - it's pretty gnarly once you get to the bigger obstacles...there are 3 or 4 big ones if I remember correctly. I have always parked just below the first big obstacle and hiked the rest of the road, most of the vehicles I have seen make it all the way up to the lake are pretty heavily lifted/modded vehicles. Also, the consequences of rolling off a couple of the obstacles is pretty high and I believe there has been at least one death from someone rolling a vehicle down the hill while trying to navigate one of the sections.

I haven't been back there in a while, but back when I had my 2 door JK Wrangler (2" lift and 34s) I remember thinking I could have done the 1st obstacle pretty easily but the ones after that I wasn't so sure about, and I was glad I parked where I did, haha.

My JTR with the Mopar lift and 35s is higher and has bigger tires than my Wrangler did, and I could actually see the longer wheelbase being a benefit in a couple of the sections as long as the bottom didn't get hung up. I'd be interested to get back up there and take another look at it and see how it looks now that I have the JTR.

I'm at 33s and a Rubicon Suspension. I will burn my 33s up and go to 35s. When I do that gearing and a rear locker will happen.

I just looked. Appears it's a 5 mile hike to the crash site.

Well, we can go look for it. I think the lake is Palmer Lake 2.

Yeah, seems to me it was a 12 mile round trip when i hiked it years ago, but as I got close to the site, I did about 1/2 on a FS road before I hit a fence on the road blocking further travel. Like I said, not a priotity.

Been a number of years and <mumble><mumble> pounds since I've done the 14er thing. Maybe this is what I need to get back into it. This is me moving between the La Plata peaks. :) This was taken in June, and that white stuff is snowy, flakey stuff!

I done a few back in the day. Even did a winter ascent of Pikes through Devil's Playground. VERY cold and windy. Had my snowboard goggles on above tree line.
