Installing the @Metalcloak skids. I didn’t have to drill the frame as mentioned in the instructions for the driver’s side. But I’m running Nemesis inner front liners so I’m having to wrestle at the motor mount bolts for the oil pan skid plate. I needed more extensions lol so I decided to just proceed on with the rear and getting most of the bolts secured but not tight. Went to Lowe’s and got a whole set of extensions for only $22 dollars!!!
My suggestion is just use some 2x4 wood and a jack to lift and line up the plates. There’s no sense in trying to balance the plates above you with your knees and elbows. It’s so easy to lift slowly and adjust then all the bolts go in with ease. Why do people post videos struggling to say “I did it myself without a jack. Could’ve used an extra hand”

But anyways I’ll continue in the morning.

If I had plastic liners it would’ve gone so much faster that’s for sure! If any one is remotely thinking of liners in the future, spend $5.00 and get the longer bolts now. If you ever have your liners off you’ll be ready for just about any brand of skids.

26” of extensions. And couple swivels for the passenger side. I finished the driver’s, lots of clearance from the top. Passenger side tricky, one more bolt to go but swivels joints have that one section that’s binds by nature and it causes the assembly to jump off. This is where a another hand under holding the socket will come in

All done. Another self inflicted wound…. I’m running teraflex center bearing driveshaft spacers and the gas tank bracket hits the spacer and the bearing bracket also hits. I made my own spacers before as I was worried about how low the driveshaft dropped. I will drive and monitor the contact if I have to I will swap out the spacers for more clearance.

I really like the look of the Metal Cloak skids. Besides the various reach issues, does anything standout to you that would cause someone, maybe slightly less handy, problems?

I also have to hand it to Metal Cloak, they have GREAT customer service and sent me a set of extra bolts when I stipped one.

I recently installed the Adventure Rack Systems overcab rack from Metal Cloak and was STRUGGLING to drill larger mounting holes for the reinforced steel under the cowls. It has made me a little gun shy for another large project.

What kind of drill bits did you use. Step bits work great, but also when drilling into thick steel, slow it down heat kills the bits and it’ll make it take longer.
But no issues really it’s just the fact that I have aftermarket liners and they got in the way of reaching motor mount bolts. Everything lined up without issues too. Where they said tighten I left snug until the very end. I won’t hesitate to order another set, and I will for my JL.

Online instructions work great especially the pictures. I keep my laptop open with the colored pictures for references on all my installs. Very detailed upfront on which tools I need especially if going to my brother’s house to do his installs, he has zero tools.

We installed these same skid plates on the bottom of a Gladiator while in Moab after driving 1,500 miles. We were short on time and had them delivered to our AirBnB and installed them laying flat on our back under the truck with no floor jack with only the tools we normally carry in our trucks :LOL:The evening before hitting the trails, no less.

Straight forward install, basically.

Hey! Did you have to make any cuts or modifications to get the skids to fit. Mine seem to be barely misaligned on one bolt of the gas tank and then the driver sound motor mount arm is not in line with the skid. Anything would help! Thank you

I was having trouble aligning mine as well. I went back loosened everything and had to wedge a pry bar between the transfer case skid and fuel skid and I was then able to wrestle them into place and then everything tightened up nicely.
