Mickey Thompson 37s - balance issues?

As the title states, I have Mickey Thompson 37" Baja Boss, 20K miles on them. All of the sudden at 50-60mph only, I've developed a shimmy in my steering wheel. I wouldn't call it death wobble by any means. Crazy thing is that doesn't happen all the time, when I'm in that range. It shows itself, whenever it wants too. I take the same route to work every day, one day Jeep rides perfect, next day, same route, the shimmy in the steering is back.

I've have had 2 different 4x4 shops go thru my suspension/lift with a fine-tooth comb, as they say, all is good. They both believe it's the tires. I've had them balanced, rotated...still same issue. Not sure if they are covered under Mickey Thompson warranty or if Discount Tire would warranty them?

Tires have plenty of tread, in fact one is practically brand new covered under Discount Tire road hazard warranty. The new tire has been moved front to back. I don't think it being mismatched with the older tire is an issue. Maybe get a second new tire and pair it with the other new and put up front? Baffled.

If it's time for me to move on from Mickey Thompson....what is your go to 37". I'm looking either TOYO or BFGs.

30k miles on my baja boss 37's, I have not experienced the issue you are describing. I have no experience with it, but I hear from my local shop that MT warranty is fantastic. Maybe chat with your tire shop about the warranty if issues persist?

Wouldnt trade my Mickey's for any other tire.

Thanks for the input. Up until now, they have been great. I checked the MT website and their warranty statement sounds legit. Yes, I'm going back to Discount Tire and see what they can do for me.

I had a similar issue on a 1500 ram. Only cure we could come up with was a lighter tire. Balance was road force and static Neither one made a difference

One more note, I should have mentioned........the 37s were fine with my 2" AEV lift & RPM steering & Clayton track bars.....we just swapped the 2" for a full Clayton 3.5" lift (arms, coils, Falcon adj shocks, etc), that's when it started. Everything is torqued and retorqued to spec, aligned, etc.....

Just spoke to Discount......getting a $1000 credit for trading in my MTs toward TOYOS or BFGs.......I want to eliminate the tires out of the issue. 20K miles on the Mickeys.

Good deal I went with the 37" BFG just because of the weight after having weight issues in the past AND being some what shorter than some makes my 4.10 gears fine

I’m actually sitting in Discount Tire now. They gave me 75% credit towards new BFGs. OMG, night and day difference. Jeep is riding amazing, no more steering wheel shimmering!!!

were your tires cupping? chekc the out to make sure your alignment is good so your new tires dont do it

Alignment is fine. Ride is straight and true. They put 37 psi in. I just dropped it down to 35. Might go 32, Going to chalk test them as well.

that will ride harsh, i run my nittos at 30. at 37 they ride like rocks with the falcon sp2 shocks

I have the C rated 37". I put 31 psi COLD as it can get in August. usually ends up 32-33 hot.

Have you had your tires checked for "tire runout", that means a tire has gone out of round. It manifests itself with the shimmy between 40-70 mph. I had the problem several times with a set of original BFG Kos years ago. It was a PIA to deal with it and the only option was to remount and rebalance the same tires all over again.

It can be a manufacturing defect showing up as thread wears or an issue with the belts slipping and sometimes it shows up after folks air down and run tires over obstacles off road (one of the reasons I'm not a fan of airing down much). It could also be a bad mounting job that took a while to get out of whack enough to shimmy. It can also be because of a "flat spot" on the tire which usually comes from the car not being used for long periods of time but sometimes they just happen.
