Subscribed... wish my Baja Boss A/T's came in a 40 with 3-peak snow rating. I really want a 40in A/T tire with 3-peak rating and this seems to be the only option like you mention. Thanks for being the "tester".

We just got a Winter blast here in northwest Alabama. It started as ice, then added 4-5" of snow (mixed with more ice). It has now packed down to a solid sheet of the hard stuff. I am amazed. I don't know if it is the capability of these trucks, or the Patagonia XT's. Maybe both, but in 4 Hi I can hardly get it to break traction. No spinning, no sliding. Makes playing in the snow kind of boring. It just goes! I've had YJ's and TJ's, but never had this kind of traction in the snow.

@Dickster @darkhorse13 Thank you for the reminder! I have been meaning to write something up now that I've had the chance to use these tires in the snow.

For reference, I live in the mountain in Utah and we get a lot of snow but almost no ice. We have a lot of steep grades and windy mountain roads and I can confidently say that the XT does a great job in the snow. They stop and corner very well which is why I was getting a 3PMSF tire. Personally, I think the BFG ko2 39 was better, but it's marginal and for the price difference I don't think I would've purchased a ko2 again since this is only my winter tire and I still have my MT for summer.

I also thought my Baja Boss AT on my wk2 grand Cherokee was better than both the ko2 and XT but it's a different vehicle so hard to compare. My buddy has the Baja Boss AT on his JK and it also does better than my XT but same thing, it's hard to compare tires on different vehicles.

Unlike @AverageJoe , I can very easily get the tires to break/spin/slide but I could do that with my ko2 as well. I have a tuned diesel so there's a lot of torque. It is almost always intentional and if it does slide unintentionally, it is very minimal and controlled. The tire is good enough that I typically don't engage 4hi unless there is a lot of road snow.

My main contact at my shop has some inside info from Mickey Thompson and they are planning to release the Baja Boss AT in a 40. I'm not sure on the timing but it sounds like late 2024 or early 2025. Once I run through these XTs I will be switching. Personally, I think the Baja Boss AT is the best all around tire on the market. With that said, the 40 Patagonia XT is great for the price for a road/winter tire. I can't speak for it in offroad use but I know a lot of people have had sidewall issues with the Patagonia tires.

If anyone has more specific questions, I will do my best to answer from my experience.

Thank you so very much for the follow up and I'm excited to hear any rumors regarding a 40-in Baja Boss AT. I also think they are one of the best looking and best performing all terrains on the market. Albeit, they do require more wheel weights than some other tires I've had. Look forward to hearing anything you post about the XT's in the meantime.

Thanks for letting us know. I run toyo AT3s on my diesel and my WK2. I have had good luck with them. Great tire life and pretty good performance. They perform just like the ko2 but last longer on a diesel truck. I just put new tires on my diesel 40k and about 1/3 tread left.

If anyone searches (what is a search? lol) for Patagonias, this thread will pop up, so I'll chime in with my experience. I have 37s in the AT variety, not XT. I originally wanted the XTs, but weight and price drove me to the ATs.

Compared to the stock Wildpeaks, it seems comparable. I don't have apples to apples as we moved states and the only place I could have compared was Jackson a few weeks ago... and they had no snow. :(

Overall I've been driving in 2WD with the recent snowfall. It slides a little, but that's from driver input. If I drive normally, the tires perform fine. I haven't struggled in any snow yet.

I haven't gone in any big drifts or deep (6"+) stuff yet.

That's interesting. I had the toyo at3w on my girlfriends wk2 and they were by far the worst 3PMSF AT tire that we've had on any vehicle. After 20k miles they were basically worthless in the snow and borderline dangerous. I didn't believe her until I drove the vehicle and then I immediately replaced them.

That's funny my wife's WK2 with at3s is snow machine lol with excellent wear. Might be the type of snow? Ours is typically really wet and not dry cold stuff.

Mhmm that's very interesting! I never thought of that. Our neighborhood had very steep, tight roads, often with a lot of unplowed road snow. Personally, I felt an AT tire with deeper tread did much better than a tire like the at3w or even a true snow tire like the blizzacks. But even on more regular snowy roads, they were horrendous. Just my experience with the conditions we drove in.

That's pretty much our area, We do not get snow often in town. When the snow does hit we do not have the resources for it. Our side streets are messed up for weeks as they only clear main roads. We have lots of hills in a lot of our areas and typically we go pull people out for fun lol.

We have the opposite issue. All the resources but a lot of snow haha. They plow the neighborhood with construction equipment because the roads are so tight so it takes them forever and by the time they finish there’s already another few inches. A lot of mornings I’d leave there’d be 6-12” of unplowed snow. Super fun in the right vehicle but not for most. I pulled out a ton of cars last year just to get in and out of the neighborhood. It got really old.

2in of snow with put us in state of emergency lmao. Born and raised Oregonians do just fine. I am close to a lot of Intel facilities and lots of transplants that only have seen snow in photos. We also do not use salt until its too late lol.

We just got 4in of snow then 3/4in of freezing rain 2 days later lol. It last a week or so then back up 40degs. Without studs or chains nothing is good in solid ice.

Oh, I have plenty of power and torque. I'm just saying that, in 4 Hi, my truck has proven to be very capable in snow/icy conditions. Moreso than any previous 4wd vehicles I have owned. I believe that the limited slip differential, the traction control system, and the Patagonia XT's all contribute.

Gotcha! I typically turn off traction control in 4hi haha
