I was leaving the Home Depot and came across this RAM, parked next to me. It had Mexico plates…

It was a cool find, very different and just wanted to share. 👍🏼

Someone chopped a minivan? I admit i did like the look of the original Honda Ridgeline for a small truck built on a minivan chassis. The new ones don't look enough like a truck in my opinion.

" Buyers can select two- or four-door bodies for the 700. The pickup offers a payload of up to 1,653 pounds (750 kilograms), 40.36 cubic feet (1,143 liters) of cargo space, and 882 pounds (400 kilograms) of towing ability. "

Kind of neat IMO, reminds me of the santa cruz or the maverick.
A 2 door would be cool, looks like a usable bed size.
Used to have a Brat back in the day, was a pretty handy little trucket.

See, this is why I own Stellantis stock. There's such a wide variety in the marketplace 😆

I think it is neat. Mexican and Central/South American Latin markets are way different than ours.
Yeah, one only needs to study the history and cars (and Jeeps) of VAM to see how that works.
or
Visit Korea, Israel, etc. and see how big trucks just don't work and what people really want over there.

For all their market research and focus groups, sometimes it seems the big corporations lack common sense. Nobody wants to stick their necks out so everything is committee decisions based on data. 😵💫

You miss the point and of course, base it on our own greed and needs for more and bigger and more power.
They don't want that in other countries. They want to get around, reliably, and be able to get through tight spots where your Ram 1500 would be stuck.
They've got to sell globally, not just to you.
You can't afford to guess - and it's been that way since before you were even conceived. Market research has driven the auto industry for many decades. It takes years to develop a new platform - and a lot of $$ - and if they are wrong?? Then what?
Sticking your neck out doesn't beat competition - it causes failures.
Knowing what people want by asking them, then building for the largest number is how you succeed.
How did Korea and Japan trounce the US in autos - 20 year plans, not 5.

Yup- isn't Ford a big presence there?
yes. Very big. I’m mostly familiar with Brasil as that’s where we go ( wife is Brazilian). Ton of Ford Rangers and Chevrolet although often with diesels.

then next but to a lesser extent there are Frontiers and Hilux.

There’s definitely more of the smaller trucks like the mini ram in the OP’s post, the VW version, and others. More affordable, and better on gas.

I’ve only seen one full-size truck and all my times there, and it was a Dodge ram. Last time I was there, I saw a jeep wrangler, JKU at the pharmacy near my wife’s mother’s house. Only Wrangler/Gladiator I’ve ever seen there.

I feel bad for Subaru. Other than the El Camino Subaru had the Brat, they sold very well but went away. Then they came out with the Baja Sport which had lack luster sales and died an early death. They were on the cutting edge and now look what's popular:

The Jennifer PickUp, Honda Ridgeline, yes the original was designed around what a "Jennifer" would want.
Ford Maverick
Hyundai Sata Cruz
This fuglly Ram 700

Holly crap, I forgot about the Dodge Rampage 2.2!
