My rig came with the Mopar headliners. I’m thinking or pulling them off, painting the freedom tops black, installing some sound deadening and reinstalling the headliners. I’m on the central coast of CA so temps are rarely severe in either direction so mostly just looking to quiet the space and reduce the styrofoam cooler look inside. Before I yank the headliners off I’m looking to find out how they’re secured and how to best reattach them,

My opinion- get sound deadner like Killmat (or similar) to apply to the roof in all the spots being covered. For reapplying either double sided alien tape or 3m spray adhesive. (Only read about the 3m spray adhesive…. Alien tape is crazy :| so, ensure you attach where you want it ;) )

I’ve got a bunch of kilmat, or similar, left over from an old project I will use. Alien tape? I’ll have to check that out….sounds impressive ?

I'm probably not alone in this opinion, but the 2 sided 3M tape Mopar and Hotheads use for thier headliner kits seems to be the suck. I put the Mopar kit in my JK and the two larger panels fell off as soon as it sat in the sun. Hotheads JT headliner uses the same stuff and it fell off faster than the Mopar. I fixed both of them using Gorilla 38 pound tape. In both cases the manufacturers don't use enough of the 3M tape to hold the weight of the panels.

Didn’t sand, cleaned then acetone, applied deader and HotHeads. Parked in the 95F sun for a couple hours then pressed firmly into place again.
That was 3 years ago and they have seen -12F and 110F with no problems. I would recommend them to anyone.

Yes, we followed the instructions to the letter. We used the abrasive sheet they provided in the kit and wiped the mounting surfaces down thoroughly with acetone. The small amount of 3M tape they provided simply couldn’t hold the weight of the rear panels, and in the case of the driver front Freedom Panel it fell off as soon as we reinstalled it. The inside surfaces of the Gladiators roof panels have a heavy texture and despite scuffing the mating surfaces and wiping them down with acetone the texture must be more than the 3M tape can deal with. Hotheads only provided two narrow strips of the 3M tape on each panel, which obviously wasn't sufficient. If they don't stay on I'm going to try Velcro strips.

We had something of the same issue with the Mopar headliner we installed in our JK. Mopar provided a ski mpy amount of the 3M tape and the minute the stuff sat out oi n the summer sun the panels started falling off. In that case we pulled them off and reattached them with about twice as much adhesive, using 38 pound Gorilla Tape. Hotheads insisted the Gorilla Tape won't hold as its a rubber product and will melt. But three years on it has held fine.

Wanted to add that in both installations we used a small roller (as suggested in the Mopar instructions) to press the tape firmly onto the roof panels. Thus we know they got good pressure for the adhesive to grip the plastic. Ambient temp in both casesx was around 70 degrees F.
