it also appears the 2021 use a different soft tonneau now. The dealer has ordered in the correct cover. What a fiasco.
That will come with the rivet nuts but you will need a tool or have the dealer install them

The dealer sent 06104885AA, which is m6. What a pain in the ass.
The soft tonneau does use the M6 rivnuts for the bed wall at the cab. The mount bolts are exactly the same as the M6 hardtop mount bolts. Not sure this helps, but I verified that when I sold my roll-up to another forum member.

Also, for others trying this, the 2021 soft roll-up bolt tab uses the top hole in the bed. I think the earlier soft tonneau uses the bottom hole in the bed.

Not sure you need a special tool for the rivnut install since it’s hex shaped instead of the round/grooved type.

you are correct. The cover they sent is the old style that uses the bottom hole. The inserts they sent are for the upper hole and they are m6. So now I have to wait for the new style cover.

So thanks everyone for your help on this I’ve decided not to install the Mopar roll up after all this…. Just ordered an undercover armor flex trifold…. If anyone in the northern New Jersey area is looking for a soft Mopar roll up with lots of extra rivet nuts I ordered a shit ton I will let it go cheap
Did you get the Undercover Armor Flex? If so, how do you like it?

I waited almost 2 months and they kept pushing back the order so I canceled(they also switched the lineX coating and it is now glossy deal breaker as well) so i went with the Bakflip MX4 witch was a mistake they had to send me 4 different covers as they kept coming in damaged or improperly manufactured. I was finally able to Frankenstein two different ones together to get an undamaged working cover but I am not impressed with the quality and would not recommend very cheaply made and manufacturing is horrible. They are having serious issues. Real truck has been great getting me what I needed though. I will look for another cover down the rd but It works for now.

I also ran into this cluster, the dealer used my VIN to order the cover and they received the older cover with no inserts, so they ordered the inserts and they were sent the wrong ones, in the end they had manually order the correct cover using the part number. I love the cover however do yourself a favor and replace the torx bolts in the back (tailgate end) with a hex bolt so you can use a standard wrench on it. Using the stupid wrench they sent was f'n awful. Only slight issue with mine is in heavy rain it will leak a small amount by the tail gate, I probably just need to realign it.

I just used a small impact gun drill with the nut installed and it wedged itself perfectly. If you’re in the South San Francisco area. I can help with the install. Pretty quick and easy with the right tools.

I picked up my tri fold Mopar hardcover used. Found stainless nuts and washers to install. It was slightly tedious however after 20 minutes on the first the second only took about two minutes so total time for complete installation was 30 minutes not including trip to the hardware store.

Installed the Mopar hard tonneau last night. Ran into the same surprise regarding the rivet nut and lack of tool as the original OP. Like @kevman65 and plenty of youtubers suggested, I used the original hardware that came with the kit, a couple extra washers and some common tools to get the job done. Worked perfectly.

Items Used:
  • Crescent wrench (who doesn’t have one?)
  • T-50 torx + ratchet (comes with our jeep)
  • M8 x 1.25 bolt (included with kit)
  • Large M8 washer (included with kit)
  • 2 small M8 washers (hardware store - other sizes may work)
  • M8 x 1.25 nut (hardware store)
How to use
  1. Thread the M8 x 1.25 nut pretty much all the way onto the M8 bolt
  2. Put the 2 small M8 (or equivalent) washers onto the bolt
  3. Put the 1 large M8 washer onto the bolt
  4. Thread the M8 rivet nut onto the bolt enough to where the end of the bolt is at least flush or sticks out the end of the rivet nut.
  5. Place the complete assembly into the appropriate rivet nut hole
  6. Use the T-50 torx + ratchet to hold the bolt in place so it DOES NOT spin (IMPORTANT)
  7. While making sure the rivet nut is pressed up against the body of the vehicle, Use the crescent wrench to tighten the nut towards the body thus pulling the rivet nut from the other side.
!!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!!
Turn the crescent wrench/M8 nut and NOT the ratchet/bolt
