Don’t forget that the trailer is attached when you’re backing out to start off driving somewhere. After crunching up the rear quarter panel of my Land Rover with the front corner of a cargo trailer years ago, I’ll hopefully never be making that mistake again. :headbang:

You may want to invest in a spare tire if the trailer does not come with it and some way to jack it up.
This is a big deal if you are doing a long trip.

I use my 3000 lb, 5x8 utility trailer 99% around town, so never had a spare. Then a couple of years ago I had to go 200 miles to pick up a motorcycle.

Fortunately my dad's race car trailer uses the same wheels. I brought my harbor freight "race" jack over, removed the wheel and left. His trailer has 2 axles so I didn't. need to put anything under it.

So if you are just going to do the long trip once, you may want to borrow a spare, but DO GET a spare. I'm annoyed at myself that I forgot to mention that when I commented above.

You don't want to be the guy whose trailer is sitting on the side of the interstate because he got a flat and had to unhitch to go get a spare.

Which brings me to one other thing. Bring 2 cans of fix a flat. It can help get you off the side of the interstate faster than changing a tire with your butt hanging out in traffic.

Double check all connections before driving with the trailer attached… chains, electrical, lock pin in the ball connection so it does not pop off. and make sure you have the jack at full up(and rotated if applicable). You don’t want the first bump to be the jack hitting the ground and bending or breaking.

And the trailer I bought has grease bearing buddies on the hubs
Are you sure they are bearing buddies and not EZ-Lube? Bearing buddies usually come on boat trailers. EZ-Lube has a small rubber disk you can remove to access the ZERK fitting. If the trailer is new I would just check to see the grease inside the hub grease cap, don't "top it off" as too much is not good. Take a ride pulling it, stop and lay your hand on the hub and see if it's hot. I wouldn't take it apart.
