Back when I was a kid sweeping up a Saab repair and machine shop, the mechanics used to put waste oil into a pneumatic sprayer and spray it on the underside of their cars a couple of times per winter to prevent rust.

The rest went into our waste oil furnace.
When I was a kid I’d eat crayons.

The guy who owned the shop I worked in after college had a 1950-something Buick that was near mint. Every fall he'd bring the car in and he had a sort of sprayer he filled with linseed oil. He'd put the car on the hoist and spray the under carriage of that car. It was rust-free - and as he said - no spring or suspension squeaks.

I'll not bash R.C. on their lift kits of the past definitely not the top of line for many but the 3in lift kit for XJ's many years ago worked as a "gateway drug" on lifting XJ's (I actually got about 4.5 in. lift) and other vehicles. ? Actually the lift I put on my LJ might be one. ? I am having sagging of the springs now but damn it has been 16 years and over 200000 miles. No D.W. or crazy s### so without a problem.

Still a funny thread. :like::giggle:

Damn I wish I had sprayed down the bottom of my JT about 2 weeks ago with some kind of oil... I spent over $15.00 trying to get all the rusting agents washed off a few days ago.

No problem with any rust agents here. I need to get a pic of the rear and a straight-on front shot. The truck almost looks white in some views.

From Nashville TN to E Kentucky rain turning to freezing rain to snow and temperature drop to -3°. I didn't have the spray I had hundreds pounds of ice. That ice melting chemicals worked down to maybe mid 20° but then it was freezing too.
I had not had to deal with that cold in a long dang time.

Here they say the "salt" doesn't work below about 10, or was it 0, well, somewhere in there.

This is almost artistic.......

Yep.. at -3° stuff starts to build up... it had built up to point when I turned front wheels it was hitting tires and had no suspension travel.

I had to knock the ice off front fenders once even.

WOW!! Look at that rear wheel well! I bet there was a bad scraping sound on bumps and such and you added over 100 pounds to the weight of that trailer.

At least 500 plus on the trailer alone, when I stopped for gas I had to knock ice off back sides of front wheels. Iced to point of limiting ability to turn wheels. Curves on main roads not a problem but not turning onto side roads or intersections. After I stopped the trailer tires frozen in ice, the trailer fenders was packed full. Overall a great drive, not a lot of times/places you can drive in 4 W.D. for close to 200 miles non stop. :like: :like: :like: to AL, TN, and KY road crews for the efforts to clear roads and helping out the one's that needed it. Not to leave out the rest but I seen AL being pro-active on salting roads same with TN, KY.

LOL - so when the guy asks, hey, how much does that trailer weigh? You'd respond- in which state?

We put a 4 inch lift kit on the XJ, it's been a few years and no issues with the suspension system itself. Now, we don't put very many miles on it, but still, no issues after like 5 years now.

On my JT, I don't run anything rough country as of today. I'm just in a better place financially where I can choose to purchase some of the higher end products, but I still remember eating cup-o-noodles 5 nights a week.
I want to put about a 3 or 4 inch lift on my JT. Any good quality recommendations? I don’t want to go cheap but don’t want to break the back either?
