This is a great thread. My Rubicon Gladiator arrives next week. (Week 8 today waiting) On the bench I already purchased 37's and 3" lift. I'll install immediately. 8 speed auto. Will it be a sled? Will I be searching for gears right away. Please chime in if you're running 37's on the Rubicon 8 speed with stock gears. 4.10 Math states 4.59. I see 4.56 available.Math doesn’t lie, but you also have to weigh the cost vs. benefit. The lower and broader gearing of the new 8-speed transmission changes things vs. older Jeeps too. If performance remains acceptable, the cost to regear needs to be recovered in fuel mileage to be worth it in my opinion.
The 8 speed does change things. Yet it all depends and what your figuring in for the price to be worth it. Fuel mileage aside you need to think about the added strain on the drivetrain, not only due to tire size but weight as well. Who knows how long the 8 speed will last with the extra strain. Or universal joints. Or the 3.6 itself. Spending a grand or 2 extra on gears could save the cost of spending thousands on a more costly component down the road.Math doesn’t lie, but you also have to weigh the cost vs. benefit. Well said! Thank you for your feedback. I'll head in that direction for sure. The 8 speed does change things. Yet it all depends and what your figuring in for the price to be worth it. Your right on track! Started looking into it already. "Trail Recon" Brad. has some great information on you tube. Might as well throw in some Chromoly shafts. Thank you for the feedback.I’d only swap them if you’re going to upgrade your axle shafts and reinforce the housings at the same time to spread the labor cost. Pretty limited return for a $1500+ upgrade otherwise
