3 months into JT ownership newbie questions (brand new to Jeep, 4x4, etc.) (2022 Mojave Manual):

1. How do I get stability control off? I see traction control button, I have tried holding that button down for awhile, still stability seems on. Even Offroad+ seems to leave on stability.
2. How do I get 4hi and rear locker on (Mojave is supposed to be able to do this without any aftermarket in Offroad+, I can’t get it to switch on)? Don’t suppose I can go full ape and have locker on in 2wheel drive? It would have to be deep snow/ full drifting conditions to use locker I understand.
3. When I am moving between 4hi and 2 wheel drive or visa versa should I clutch it? Be moving or not? Obviously auto folks don’t clutch it so I’d imagine manual does not need to unless computer does it for auto. Just let off power a bit below 65mph I think direction is I have read.

Honeymoon phase with truck still. Loving bed versatility and good interior space. Suspension dampening seems so impressive on rough forest roads I run regularly vs. Cherokee Trailhawk I had before. Wish they offered the full time t-case with the manual tranny.

Somewhat embarrassed to run ā€˜Dessert Rated’ model in largely deep snow/northern climate, but I anticipate that once I get my familiarity up with traction systems, in the deep snow I often see, Mojave sand settings will translate well to snow performance. Thx.

1. I am pretty certain stability is off in 4Hi & OffRoad+, maybe you need 4Lo. Try holding TC off for at least three seconds while in Offroad+
2. I have a Rubicon but the ability to put rear locker on in 4Hi is the same. Conditions are 4Hi, OffRoad+, Stopped to engage rear locker. That's it, I've done it a handful of times without issue. In the Auto, shift points are much higher in this configuration but with an MT that's obviously your choice.
3. You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi while stopped, it may not like it and then you need to roll the wheels a bit, but it is possible. Optimally you are moving between 5mph and 45mph. With the auto the drive stays engaged, and I would suggest you don't touch the clutch. Reason being that the rotation of the driveline allows the transfer case coupling to mesh once the gears align. It's easiest when the case is warm, and you let off the throttle a bit for neutral torque transfer and then it should slip right in (after a good firm pull/push). The key is to make a decisive, committed engagement. If you half heart it, you are probably going to get a little grind.

If I were you, I would pick a good snowy day and run through the steps in the manual methodically a few times to get the procedure down. From 2Hi to all systems engaged is a few steps. I've been gradually teaching my wife, who refuses to read the manual, progressively more of the capabilities. you can think of it as a layered system that you can progressively add capability as needed by switching on your gizmos. Part of the fun for me is that it isn't just a one button a go setup. You get to choose quite a few variables to tailor the setup to your needs, especially with an auto rubicon with dual lockers, duck mode and sway bar disconnect.

Rear locker on the Mojave procedure:
The procedure is shift transfer case to 4-Hi, press Off Road+ button, hold ESC Off button for 5 sec (it seems pressing it once disables traction control, holding it for 5 sec disables stability control), press Axle Locker Rear Only switch. The locker then shows as locked in the Off-Road Pages.

If you forget to hold the ESC Off button for 5 sec, you get a message in the cluster that you must be in 4-Lo to activate the locker. Simple process but I even mess it up still, you can get a taser as well and enable to locker to engage whenever you like.

I'll say after testing rear locker in 4Hi a few times in the snow, in some respects it isn't helpful. You still have the brake 'lock' differential which is a bit more flexible and drove better in my opinion depending on the snow character. It was with a 3k lb trailer so heavily rear weight biased, but still, I drove about 300 miles on snow covered roads in November and didn't need it. I found it tended to slide the rear a bit more.

I got to drive in two feet of fresh snow this week and it was a blast. In 2Hi you can whip some epic drifts with the bed unloaded. In 4hi it just claws forward. My wife commented that she was concerned about driving but said it was no issue after doing it.

I got stability off! Thx! Still scratch my head at no front locker on Mojave...OK a high speed offroad rig does not need sway bar disconnect...but likely to get stuck still and locker so nice then. Great tip on clutching into 4x4, thx. Duck mode!? I have lots to learn still.

As I was not getting stability off, I'd not get past that step evidently... figured that out now with help from earlier reply so will try this next. Forecast for next two days keeps getting more sever for snow. 18" plus now...might need these modes sooner then later!

Not sure if manual has it - selecspeed, basically hill ascent/descent control. It works the throttle, tuning and modulates each wheel brake individually to maximize traction. Steps in with a level of control not available manually.

Tazer mini ???

You can set a live button to disable Ess, traction control etc.

Otherwise you have to be in 4-low.

The tazer is worth it for this reason alone if you ask me…. Donuts!!!!! Snow drifts!!! Woooo!!

Can also allow for the 2wd locker.

Manual Jeep I have always clutched in to shift in and out.

Our JT is a diesel, only downfall is it’s an auto :(

Right… scanned through other threads a bit… button looks like a duck. Manual I think they just acknowledge that 4lo/1st does the same thing.
