Has anyone mounted Nitto RG 35x12.5x17 tires on stock Gladiator Wheels? Nitto specs state the minimum wheel size is 8.5 inches. The stock wheels are 17x7.5 inches. Will this cause any problems? My Gladiator LE is coming in next week and i was planning on doing the Mopar 2 inch lift with this set up. Are there any other similar tires that I should consider.

From what I have read, it can be done but the 35x12.5x17 tires require an 8.5”wheel to prevent a ballooning effect of the tire causing excessive wear in the center of the tire. A 315/70/17 tire is similar to the 35” tire in size and requires an 8” wide wheel to prevent wear. It’s not perfect but it’s closer to the 7.5” stock wheels. The only other option would be to buy new wheels.

I had about 35,000 miles on my 35x12.5r18 Sahara wheels and the wear was perfectly uniform. Just make sure your pressure is right and you’ll be fine. The “recommended rim width” is to insure that your section width is as advertised. The actual tread width on most 12.5 tires is around 10.5 so a 7.5 inch rim is fine. Go to the discount tire webpage and look up what they say the recommended range is. You’ll feel much more comfortable with your decision then.

Actually, the listed rim width is to ensure the bead stays seated and doesn't kill people in a curve on the highway.

But yeah, I've seen 12.50s on stock wheels before. It looks goofy but it works. Just watch your pressures.

Discount tire website does list rim width 7.5-11.5 inches on the Nitto RGs. Tennessee was right. I feel better already. Don't want to look goofy, but I'm not sure I could notice a 1 inch difference in wheel width. If I'm dishing out top dollar for the fricken Launch Edition wheels, I'm damn sure gonna use em.

This was my JK on Firestone MT2 35x12.5r18. Didn’t look goofy to me.

Agree Tennessee. The "goofy" comment was just plain goofy.
