Yup. Those are them. The USFS has sort of limited / changed access. Or at least they were implementing changes before they got DOGE'd. I hesitate to think what is going to happen to these ruins now that they are more publicly "advertised" by the USFS.

Have you been up on the rim and done the Ol' 127 trail or other trails in that area S of Williams?

You're welcome!! If you get west on the 40 towards Williams, the above trail(s) are easy to access.

I remember the trail to the ruins was almost impossible to find, now it's like a sidewalk. I really don't think to many more people will venture out to the trail head because it's just to long of a day for most.

FYI - Ol' 127 is only accessable from the top of the plateau. Not the bottom unfortunately. Also, the view to the ruins we mentioned above is just barely blocked when you get to the end of 127. Still, a wonderful overlook overall.

I hope you're right on the ruins access. Yeah, used to be very difficult. Last time I was there they chopped dozens and dozens of junipers to drag out and block the trail instead of just putting up a sign and/or gate across the trail. Then we got yelled at by the guys building the "sidewalk" for ruining the area and breaking all the pottery. We were always respectful of the area - and of them too, but they proved themselves to be a typical government employee. :D :D I'm 100% sure I knew about, used and took great care of the area before they ever went to work for the USFS or even knew about the ruins. LOL

I have never done Casner. Isn't it permit only? What are the regulations on that. I seem to remember they wanted you to have multiple vehicles to get a permit? Can't remember.

Yes, Casner is permit only and only allows 10 vehicles per permit. I believe it is around 20 passes a year and each pass is good for 1 week, but only good for 1 day during your specific week and if you don't get all 10 vehicle spots filled they might add vehicles to your permit. Kinda weird but worth it. I think we had 7 vehicles and they did not add 3 more, but could have. Call the forestry office in Sedona to get on the list.

I was up there last May and 127 was accessible from the south. We went home that way through Jerome. The view from Sycamore Point never disappoints.

Casner is worth the hassle of a permit. I’ve done it a few times and it’s awesome.

Via helicopter?? heh heh. 127 ends at a cliff - zero opportunities for any way down to the south as it's on foot only via wilderness hiking trail. Old Perkinsville (FS354?) is rough and has a bad washout last time I was there, but is probably doable from either S to N or N to S. Haven't been since recent storms. I have heard it's shut down by the USFS until late summer though.... No doubt due to that particular washout.

Perkinsville road (partial dirt, partial pavement) is the only way up/down the plateau on the west side until you go east towards Sedona - then you have Casner, and ultimately Oak Creek (paved). Perkinsville Road does indeed end in Jerome. But yeah, 127 doesn't go thru. There is also another way up to the north and west called Matterhorn - starts around Drake if you know where that is. I may have a video of that later when I get to it. The lower 1/2 of matterhorn is rough and rocky but not hard, and the upper half is easy and smooth. I have searched and searched, but to my knowledge - those are the only ways up to the top from the bottom. Sounds like you did the new Perkinsville road or FS354 (old perkinsville road).

Hope to do Casner sometime soon. Sounds awesome. Thanks for the reminder/suggestion.
