Overall thoughts...
1. It’s way smaller than the map makes it out to be.
2. The trails are not well marked (meaning they’re not marked at all). I had no idea what trail I was on, which meant I had no idea what level of difficulty the trail was
3. They need more toilets! I wanted to be out there longer, but with the dry air, I was doing a lot of hydrating and since the only toilet I knew of was at the entrance, we just aired up and left.
4. Speaking of airing up... they have a compressor for folks to use!
5. I enjoyed using the off-road auto throttle, it’s pretty cool!
6. I think I even got some pinstriping, but I won’t know until I wash her up
7. I got stuck behind a Toyota club with some new off-roaders. I’m glad they were being watched and mentored well, but some of them were in bone stock 4-runners (still had dealer plates), and were going really slow. Fortunately we were able to take a detour they passed up and we played in the mud a little.
8. I didn’t go on the difficult trails for two reasons:
A. I was wheeling without wheeling buddies and didn’t have anyone to help me get unstuck.
B. My mostly stock JTRD needs some more altitude, bigger off-road tyres, and a winch.
I live in DFW and still haven’t made it out there, yet. I checked out Hidden Falls a couple weeks ago and it was good, but still lots of unmarked trails if you’re not on a park road.
I'm heading out there on Saturday, looks like it'll be rainy. Any tips for wet on the trail? I did the Jeep Adventure Academy in Llano a few weeks ago so I have a new respect for the capabilities of the truck.
