And to that point, the system has been installed and working fine for two years. This is a failure of a factory component, just have to figure out what when they sent my warranty. And I did call genesis tech support while waiting for the tow truck and they confirmed there's no failure mode in their equipment that could result in a no-charging condition.

I didn't have my obd reader in the truck with me though so I couldn't check for codes. I did NOT have a CEL oddly, just it battery light and then the individual system failure lights when the batteries ran down too low.
You can actually full-field the alternator to force a charge condition.
You need to disconnect the corrects wires at the alternator to do so, but it's possible to force it to see if it's alternator or control issue.
You can also check the state of the wires at the alternator - if there's field current and so on

I would still look at the IBS. You could have a bad alternator. You said that you had battery voltage at the alternator. This could also have been the alternator output and that is what it is being told to put out. I would look at loose terminals, fender ground and the IBS connection.

Just out of curiosity, since the IBS senses battery temperature, if it were sensing an overtemp condition and preventing charging, would you get a message telling you that? And would it let the batteries run out and continue to not charge just for overtemp? It was stupidly hot yesterday, and I did drive the truck to lunch and back to work so it got up to temp and then sat there and baked all afternoon. Although to be honest even after waiting for the tow truck for hours in a rainstorm (i.e. it definitely cooled off) it still wasn't charging. I'm just curious if it would throw some specific "battery too warm" message or something.

If I just unplug the IBS and start the truck, would it charge if the alternator is good? I.e. is the default state of the system to charge, and the IBS restricta charging, or is it to NOT charge and the IBS enables charging?

That is a good question! You would get an ibs fault for sure. Would it put out full time? I don't have that answer. I don't know what an overtemp would be concerning the ibs. I have a similar battery sensor that is I believe 160f. No idea for our gladiator. I will look at the gospel.

I am just wondering if maybe I could have saved myself a ton of time and pain and a hotel stay if I had just unplugged the sensor to get home. Assuming that is actually the problem of course. The dealer has the key now and while they haven't started working on it, I feel kinda funny going and asking them for the key so I can work on my truck in their parking lot.

Of course you only know what you know when you know it.....

It is the alternator, and they're covering everything under my extended warranty, no questions asked! Unfortunately it won't be done today, so one more night in a hotel for me.
Score for the extended warranty!

I think they could have easily denied due to the Genisis system. You have a good dealer there! Today is your day! Go get yourself a lottery ticket. I'll split the winnings with you!

No kidding, I am surprised they never even mentioned it. Too bad they are so far from home, I'd come back here if I need more work done.

The only indication would be a cut back in the voltage on the gauge on the cluster if you were looking at the voltage display.
It might drop to something like 12.6 for example.
On a drive from Colorado Springs back to Iowa a couple of years or so ago, we were on the road so long in the heat at highway speeds that I did see the voltage drop back to 12.6 on the display.
Two things can do that - fully charged battery, or hot battery.
No warning, it just cuts the voltage back.

Since the cause has been found in your case, I won't go through how the alternator can be checked by savvy people with basic tools and wire jumpers.

Good for you OP. Hotel stay is probably the same as cost of the alternator or less. Also good on dealer for standing up.
