It's the latest FAD for highway engineers around here. Got round abouts and double diamonds too. Double diamonds will screw with your head.

They redid a highway overpass and interchange by my house and made it a double diamond. It does seem to work a lot better. Does take some getting use to.

Edit: nevermind, I just looked it up. So where there used to be a cloverleaf, now there’s not but you’ve got 4 new red lights where before there were none?! Huh, doesn’t look better. I’d be curious to see one in action.

Roundabouts starting being installed again here in RI in mad amounts in the last few years. Weird, I remember when our DOT ripped them all out about 20 years ago claiming studies showed they were ”unsafe” . I wonder what happened to all those studies?

Everytime there is a change of the head engineer at DoT. They want to put their thumb print on everything. That means making changes where it doesn't need changed.

Agreed, and I’ve seen this in action personally at work. I cringe whenever there’s a new guy hired that’s higher up the food chain.

Me too. A new higher up just has to make changes regardless of the outcomes. They will screw up a smooth running operation in a matter of minutes with the first e-mail. They have to prove a point to their higher up.

Peter principle.

The Peter Principle states that an employee continues to receive promotions to work in higher ranks up to that point where he reaches a level of incompetence. In simple terms, the higher the hierarchy ladder an individual goes, the more likely he is to fail in his new position.

Agreed, and I’ve seen this in action personally at work. I cringe whenever there’s a new guy hired that’s higher up the food chain.

My wife works for a large hospital network. They cringe whenever a new president is brought in every several years. The 700 VPs come up with some wild ideas to prove their worth.

A VP had an idea to lower manpower by outsourcing billing. The new company hired the incompetent billing people the network had on staff and the competent workers found jobs with other companies. The billing is now all screwed up and they fired the company and brought back the dingleberries. VP has since left.
